Did you know that in Iceland, we don't have a single Santa clause that fly's through the nights sky and brings all the good children in the world a gift? We have 13 Yule lads that are descendants of trolls and really are bogeyman, a really mean Christmas cat that eats people that did not receive new cloths for Christmas eve, a mean old troll lady, Grýla, that cooks and eats children that don't behave well, and her lazy and useless husband Leppalúði!
Do you know any similar stories from around the world?

This group of travelers from Portugal planted 246 trees with us last Saturday. Cold but beautiful day and everyone was thrilled to carbon offset their travels in Iceland and help the local community at the same time 🌳

This Saturday we got a visit from a group of travelers from Portugal. They planted 246 trees with us in beautiful but a bit cold weather. A typical Icelandic summers day 🌳

In today's Iceland news, two new fissures have opened up close to the eruption in Geldingadalur. The two fissures are 100-200 meters long each. The lava from the fissures runs down a hill into a nearby valley which is truly a spectacular sight.
If you follow the link below you can find a drone video of the new fissures and the lava river that they form 🌋

Nýja sprungan sem myndaðist á gossvæðinu við Geldingadali sést vel á nýju drónamyndskeiði sem Ólafur Þórisson tók fyrir mbl.is rétt í þessu. Þar sést vel hversu gríðarlega stór sprungan er sem opnaðist fyrr í dag.

A little more information about the ongoing eruption in Geldingardal on the Reykjanes peninsula. The eruption is very small and there is no immediate danger to people except possible gas pollution.
The fissure is approx. 500 meters long and the activity has slown down a bit. The lava is flowing down into a small valley and looks to be settling there. Volcanic eruptions are a fairly common events in Iceland. On average there is an eruption every 5 - 6 years or so. In Iceland there are around 30 active volcanic systems. Some are more active then others and erupt every few years but others stay dormant for longer periods. The system that is erupting now has not erupted for the last 700 years or so. Reykjanes peninsula is the youngest part of Iceland and there are 5 active volcanic systems on the peninsula. Usually when one of these systems goes of, the others follow. So maybe this is just the begining of a long period of eruptions 🌋

If you have any questions about this eruption or anything else about Iceland, don't hesitate to ask 🙂

A volcanic eruption has just started here in Iceland. It's located in Geldingadalur on the Reykjanes peninsula. It is fairly close to Reykjavík city and towns located on the peninsula but no towns are in danger. Here you can see the first picture from air of the eruption, taken by the Icelandic Coast Guard. You can also watch the light from the volcano seen from the town of Keflavík on the link here below. We will keep you posted when things progress.

Some great news coming out of Iceland today 🙏!!!
Everyone that has been vaccinated for Covid-19 will be able to travel to Iceland as of later this week. We have yet to get better information on rules and regulation changes but they will hopefully arrive in the next few days.
We look forward to seeing you in Iceland :)

https://www.icelandreview.com/travel/iceland-to-open-borders-to-all-vaccinated-travellers/

Iceland’s Justice Minister just announced that the country will open its borders to travellers from outside Europe who have been vaccinated against COVID-19. According to current regulations, Iceland’s borders are closed to all travellers outside the Schengen Area, EEA, EFTA, and EU, regardless ...

Have you ever felt an earthquake or seen a volcano erupt?
As you may already know, Iceland is shaking pretty bad these days. For the last week or so there has been ongoing seismic activity on the Reykjanes peninsula. Just during the last 48 hours, there have been over 2000 registered earthquakes with 94 of them being over magnitude 3 on the Richter scale. Iceland is an active island and does like to remind us about that every now and then. Under regular circumstances on average 500 earthquakes are registered in Iceland any given week. So 2000 in just 48 hours is a bit to much.
This activity actually started just over a year ago when frequent earthquakes hit the area around the town of Grindavík and a near by volcano started to wake up again. It then cooled down a bit but started up again now with great force. During the last 24 hours we have seen some indications that there might be an eruption in the area soon. But nothing is certain in these matters so we will just have to wait and see and hope that Mother Earth just cools down a bit :)
Here you can follow the number of earthquakes that hit Iceland in real time:

Our Story

Our main motivation is the preservation of the pristine nature of Iceland. As kids we traveled all over the country, camping and hiking in this amazing landscape. As tourism here has grown the strain on nature, especially around popular attractions, has become apparent and action is needed in order for future generations to enjoy it as well. We figured that if we offered a way for people to minimize their effect without having to actually do anything, we just might be able to make tourism a little more responsible. How, you might ask, we wanted to create a marketplace of tours available in Iceland where everyone could find the tours they WANTED to do and then take a portion of our commission and put it towards environmental initiatives. One of those initiatives being carbon offsetting. We also wanted to take the responsibility out of responsible travel in the sense that we don’t want it to be tiresome. Being responsible has always been considered boring and we wanted to make an attempt to change that. We realized, people don’t want to be told what not to do. When people are on vacation, they want to live life, have meaningful experiences, and enjoy everything that the country has to offer. So, we say: “Do the activities and tours you want to do, but do them through us and help us give back to nature!”.
