"Now don't you worry. Everything's fine. Might get a little lonely, here in the Maritime. Down at the seawall. I fed the gulls my coffee and my toast. And I'm sending all my love from the Acadian Coast."
- Traditional Acadian Tune
“And the ocean, calling out to us both. A song of freedom and longing.”
― Alexandra Christo
Sunny Sunday ❤️
An afternoon hike to The Bowl.
Bar Harbor gets its name from the sand and gravel bar that blocks the western end of the harbor when it’s exposed for a few hours on either side of low tide. The bar, extending north from Bridge Street, makes a natural bridge out to a tidal island that in previous centuries has been called Bar Porcupine, and Rodick’s Island (after the family that owned it from the late 1700s to the early 1900s).
The mountains are calling and I must go.

Exploring Acadia is always better with a friend by your side. ❤️
Huguenot Head - This is the name given to the natural bump on the headland you cross when hiking the Beachcroft Trail on the northwest side of Champlain Mountain. In earlier times, Huguenot Head (692’ up) was known as Round Peak or Picket Mountain.
“I have seafoam in my veins, I understand the language of waves.”
― Le Testament d'Orphée

The southernmost of the Cranberry Islands, about four miles from Mount Desert Island, Baker Island was settled in the early 1800s by William and Hannah Gilley and their three children.
Today Baker Island, except for a few private summer homes, is part of Acadia National Park. A popular, ranger-led boat tour in season allows visitors to explore the island, and picnic on the massive rock slabs that line Baker’s southern shore.
“Those who live by the sea can hardly form a single thought of which the sea would not be part.”
― Hermann Broch
The beauty of Somes Sound
Sieur de Monts Spring was a favorite location of George Dorr’s, the first superintendent of Acadia who built a springhouse there in 1909 and had the words ‘Sweet Waters of Acadia’ carved into a large rock.
The Sieur de Monts area is home to the Wild Gardens of Acadia, many hiking and walking trails, and an Acadia National Park nature center. It also is the original site of the Abbe Museum.
It's blueberry season!

Nothing beats an evening summertime swim in Acadia.
Located along the Park Loop Road, just to the southeast of the Jordan Pond area, Wildwood Stables — operated by a private concessionaire on Acadia National Park land — takes advantage of the scenic carriage roads whose construction was supervised and financed by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. between 1913 and 1940.
"Who, me?"
Egg Rock, at the entrance to Frenchman Bay, has been known as a home for seabirds since it received its name from French explorers in the late 1600s. Bald eagles also are often spotted there. Today it is part of the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge and administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Ocean Path begins on the Park Loop Road, at Sand Beach and continues down Otter Cliffs.

"Hark, now hear the sailors cry,
Smell the sea, and feel the sky,
Let your soul & spirit fly, into the mystic."
- Van Morrison -

“It is winter proper; the cold weather, such as it is, has come to stay...everywhere skies extend, vistas deepen, walls become windows, doors open.” #anniedillard #visitacadia #visitacadianationpark #atlanticocean #acadianationalpark #iheartacadia #winterinacadia #newengland #maine #vacationland
When we came home, the sea said, “Wait.” We waited. That’s the way it is here; sometimes the wind says, “Shiver,” and we shiver; sometimes I make a shopping list, but if the snow says, “Stay,” we clean the cupboard and make soup. When we came home, and found the tide over the road and into the alders, I didn’t mind. The water rose quietly; and when it ebbed and we passed, we went quietly. That’s the way it is here, sometimes, and then we remember that it is no small thing, to live in a holy place. #nancynielsen #visitacadia #acadianationalpark #iheartacadia #holyplace #islandlife #nationalparklife #maine #visitmaine #mountdesertisland #barharbor
