ased tour operator, Geographic Expeditions, for five years. In my role as Regional Director for Latin America, I was responsible for trip development, sales, and marketing of all trips in Central and South America while leading new cutting edge departures for the company. During my tenure at Geographic Expeditions, I was fortunate to be recognized, three years consecutively, by Conde Nast Traveler as the world's top travel specialist for Peru, Colombia and Ecuador. Before Geographic Expeditions I resided in Cusco, Peru for 8 years – working as a freelance guide and operations manager for numerous local and international tour operators; leading whitewater rafting trips, trekking expeditions, luxury FIT groups and journalists on assignment throughout Central and South America.

The city of Arequipa is high, but El Misti is higher. Perhaps the most well-known volcano in Peru, this snow-capped wonder rises to 19,098 feet (5,821 meters) above sea level. Visitors to CIRQA by Andean will have no trouble understanding why this volcano is thought to have had religious significance for the Incas. Now dormant, El Misti serves as an iconic, photogenic backdrop to the white-walled city as it towers over the churches and historic monasteries below. 🗻⛪️

We have exciting news from Galapagos Safari Camp! This coming summer (June 2025), they will be introducing two family tents that sleep up to five people each. Each Family Safari Tent will have two separate sleeping areas–each with their own bathroom–connected by a shared living area. This flexible and spacious layout will be a great choice both for families and groups of friends traveling together. Note that in order to keep the overall camp experience intimate and exclusive, these tents are replacing two of the previous ones, which keeps the total count to nine.

The original three-room Family Suite will still be available to book for families and larger groups, as well. All are available to book now!

While Arenas del Mar is steps from the beach along Costa Rica's Pacific Coast, there are plenty of jungle experiences to select from during a stay, as well. For a full tropical rainforest immersion, it's tough to beat a morning at Rainmaker Biological Reserve. Visitors can meander along trails and hanging bridges and see tropical flora and rushing waterfalls, all with the help of a naturalist guide from Arenas del Mar. This is just one of the many options in the Arenas del Mar tour book—which also includes a nocturnal rainforest visit that will have the whole family on their toes!

Although each of its 83 rooms are discreetly tucked into the cloud forest, Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo also happens to be the first building that all visitors see when they arrive in Machu Picchu Pueblo. We know Turney just saw a puma at Awasi Iguazú, but unfortunately he wasn't fast enough with his camera for us to share a photo. 😉 This beautiful Passion Flower will have to do. This vine is indeed associated with one of South America's tastiest treats–passion fruit–and is actually native to Northern Argentina and Brazil. Since its introduction to other tropical destinations around the globe, it has become a key ingredient in everything from wine to cheesecake. Visitors to Awasi Iguazú may spot it on the menu, but we think seeing the flower growing wild in person is an even sweeter treat!

These interiors also seem to do an incredible job of telling the story of their surrounding region, even though they are hardly as old as the centuries-long places they find themselves in.
