KUNZUM PASS - WHY DOES KUNZUM PASS HAVE THE MOST NUMBER 0F PRAYER FLAGS ?
I have not seen any pass over the decades that has so many prayer flags placed by, I guess mostly locals,
why I say locals, is cause all the while I was there,
many tourists arrived,
not a single one put up a prayer flag.
So why do locals almost worship Kunzum Pass.
The reason is simple,
if you are from Kaza or Losar, and you have relatives in Manali or Keylong,
if this pass was not there, you would have to drive all the way towards Shimla, and then to Manali or Keylong,
and same would be for those on Manali side of the pass, and want to visit relatives on Kaza or Losar side.
Now that is one hell of a long drive, in times of Km or time or money.
ONE DAY I WILL NARATE A STORY OF HOW 4 LOCALS DIED AND ONE LOCAL SURVIVED 5 MONTHS IN SNOW, TRAPPED ON THE WAY UP TO CROSS KUNZUM PASS, WHILE GOING FROM MANALI SIDE OF THE PASS TO KAZA SIDE OF THE PASS, AND WERE HIT BY A SNOWSTORM. AND WHY ARE SNOWSTORM AND SNOWFALL SO TREACHEROUS ON MANALI SIDE OF KUNZUM PASS, THAT TILL TODAY A PROPER ROAD COULD NOT BEEN MADE.

KUNZUM PASS IN ALL ITS GLORY.
Been many times to Manali and Kaza over the years,
but always something would not work out and I could never go to Kunzum Pass.
Finally, this time, got there,
and it was such a pleasure.
and what was most amazing was the Herculean task being taken by BRO to give us a 2 lane road, which one day will be black top for sure.
And most of all, it connects two people from either side of the Pass, two worlds, those who live in Spiti side, and those who live in Lahaul side.
After all, many must be related through the generations, and also from work point of view.

KALPA.
It is always fun to head to Kalpa,
the view is always awesome any time of the year.
All thanks to Aman Ahujaa, always a memorable and comfortable stay, hospitality is awesome.
We got a corner room at the homestay run by Aman, Hotel Apple Pie, and immediately set up the camera to capture the fun from the balcony.
The winds were howling, and hot steaming tea reached us at sighing speed.

CHITKUL.
On road trip, which is your most amazing part of the day,
for me it is getting up at dawn, looking around for peaks and clouds.
and with everyone asleep, it is the most peaceful time of the day.
off course your can hear some snoring going on,
off course you see some couples taking an early morning stroll holding hands.
So this is the peak that you see far away in the valley, and the amazing clouds passing by in a rush to where ever they are heading to.

the sky was perfect.
everyone was sleeping except the clouds,
and what is fascinating is the way the clouds tease you when they play with the peaks.

We arrived at Chitkul.
Got the room we had booked,
and immediately dived into my camera gear.
after getting a Timelapse of Day to Night,
got down to capturing the Galaxy.
So got the camera running, set my alarm clock, and into bed.
Forgot to wake up after an hour to put the Dew Heater around the lens, cheers, so eventually the dew started to form, but I guess I got the Galaxy.

SARAHAN
From the time we reached Shimla, spent a night there,
then we reached Sarahan, spent a night,
it was over cast all the way till the morning when we woke up at Sarahan, and raining.
Then suddenly the sky started to open up and change,
It was amazing.
In Timelapse you capture what the eyes and brain cannot perceive.
In the background are the peaks of Sirikand Mahadev - 5,149m, Chakri - 5,054m, Narang - 4,155m.

After a highly SUCCESSFUL CLICK OF THE SNOW LEOPARD on the Northern side of Dhar Chicham,
we headed to Chandratal the next morning. Well, after a huge trek over many ridges, and then trek back down in total darkness, everyone got up late except me. I never wake up the guy drives, always allow him to wake up on his own, so he is fully rested.
It is the most amazing drive up to Kunzum Pass from Kaza side, after Losar the valley and road is generally going NorthWest direction, and to climb to Kunzum Pass, you take a left and you are heading in general direction of South West.
Immediately the view up ahead grabs your attention, be careful, keep your eyes on the road if your hands are on the wheel.
We must have stopped over a dozen time, to click every few km,
cause as you go higher, it just gets more and more amazing.
So this is one video for you, to show what appears in front of you when you are almost at the highest point. Fortunately the two guys with with me were just great, I made them stop sooooo many times, and each time I staid STOP, Anand Bawa would just stop without batting an eyelid, or looking at me, or asking me why. One of the best guys with whom I have done a road trip, and look forward for many more in his company.
(NOTE : some guys who have not been following my road trip do not understand the title of my Road Trip. It is called SNOW LEOPARD 2022. We spent 3 days in Chicham, just for the snow leopard, and we got lucky, on 3rd day we clicked the snow leopard. A team of 4 guys was there for past 2 months, and were able to click the leopard only on two occasions, and the 3rd occasion was when we were there on our 3rd day.
