Spencer's Angling Adventures Its not a hobby its a way of life! At Spencer's Angling Adventures, I focus on providing you with the finest guided musky fishing adventure possible.

As an experienced angler in many parts of the country, I am able to offer you the best potential opportunity to both learn about musky fishing and capture trophy fish. At the age of eleven I caught my first musky and have been hooked ever since. By sixteen I was entering and placing in professional musky tournaments, specifically the WMT and various Indiana tournaments. Soon after that I joined th

e Professional Musky Tournament Trail and have been fishing on the trail as a boat captain ever since. Currently I make my living as a professional musky fisherman. During the season I spend most of my time on the water as a guide. It is my goal to provide my clients with not only the best chance to catch fish but also to enrich their understanding of musky fishing in general. Nothing is more rewarding to me then seeing someone learn about the sport and watching how a single fish can turn a person into a musky fishing addict. When the season is not underway, I apply my knowledge to other aspects of the musky world by doing seminars, schools and shows. These venues not only provide me with a chance to educate, but they also allow me the opportunity to talk to the public and better understand their questions and interests regarding musky and musky fishing. It is my goal to serve the musky fishing public in any way I can and I would love the chance to hit the water with as many people as possible. If you are in any of my areas and would be interested in a guided trip, please call or email me.

***Cancelation*** August 16th is now open in my boat. Fishing has been very solid lately and hopefully this cooldown is just what we need to keep things going strong the rest of August. Here is long time client Keith Barton with our second 50+ of the day caught on a Medusa by Chaos Tackle Company. Please let me know if you're interested!

It is officially a wrap for the bass and walleye this season for me. First, I wanted to give a huge thanks to all my great clients who shared time in the boat with me this spring. Without all of you none of this is possible. Next, I wanted to thank all of my sponsors for the support in helping me put such a successful spring season together.

At this point I wanted to give everyone a quick run-down of how the season broke down this year to help everyone understand the fish movements and potentially plan a trip for the 2025 season. As everyone knows we start out the season in March doing walleye for roughly the last week of the month. This year we saw some above average temperatures in late February and early March which caused a lot of people to faultily believe that the run was starting early. Please keep in mind that there is always a resident population of fish in the river. What I am referring to is the push of additional fish from the lakes that makes the spring Detroit River run. As is almost always the case, the weather ended up balancing out and the fish began to trickle into the river in late March. In March I ran 5 trips and limited out on 3 of them with our biggest fish of the season coming on the 30th of March. April saw a brief run of prespawn females in the river however the early spring and quick warm up did cause our big fish bag to be more of a mix between pre and post spawn fish. We saw great numbers with tons of 25+ inch fish all month long with the mixture of pre and post spawn fish starting out earlier in the month. The end of the month was more post spawn. Overall, my boat limited out on 94% of my trips in April. In May we saw the fastest walleye action with catch rates and limits coming super-fast and easy almost every day. The warmer season caused us to switch to bottom bouncing a bit earlier than normal however the jigging bite stayed fairly strong until the very end of the month. The size in early and mid-May was still very good with some nice fish hitting the deck particularly in the first half of the month. In May my boat limited out on all but one trip. June this year started out fast and furious on the walleye side of things, however the second half of the month we did see the bite start to slow as the run came to a close causing the bite to be more pocketed and the fish trending a bit smaller. In June I limited out on 85% of my trips.
For walleye we used all Okuma reels with the helios 20’s doing the heavy lifting while jigging, and the coldwater 354’s working perfect for bottom bouncing. These reels are outfitted with Cortland line and Cortland floro leaders.

In May I also started to incorporate smallmouth trips into my schedule primarily as all day bass and walleye combo trips. This year we saw a big shift in the bass fishing with the moss covering everything on the bottom much sooner than normal. This caused a shift from mostly tubes to swimbaits and dropshots. Luckily the pivot worked great and the bite was extremely good overall. On almost all of my combo trips we landed over 25 bass in the half day afternoon with only a few bad weather days falling short of that mark. We also saw several banner days with over 50 bass landed in the half day of fishing after our morning walleye. For gear I used all Okuma helios 30 reels with Cortland braid and Cortland floro. For rods I relied this spring on the new Okuma X series bass rods and loved them!

Thanks again to everyone who fished

Had a 7 hour bass trip today with Ben St Louis and his brother./ We had a great time with exactly 60 fish in the boat with 56 of them coming between the two of them. The bass bite is certainly onnnnn right now and if you're looking to get on the water with me I do have several dates open for both walleye and bass yet this spring. Right now I have the following open

May 24 PM, 28 AM or PM or Combo, 31 AM or PM or Combo

***Cancelation*** ⁣
Thanks to two cancelations I am not looking to fill April 23 PM and the 26th PM. Both of these are afternoon trips typically starting around 1 PM. The River bite has been absolutely on fire and there are still plenty of great fish in the system. Today we limited in the morning and evening with plenty of big fish on each trip.

Well that's a wrap, the 2024 offseason is officially at an end despite the current blizzard outside right now which is endlessly ironic after the winter we have had. For my last 2023 post here is a giant from my second to last day last December that inhaled a quad dawg by Musky Innovations. If you are looking to get out for walleye I do still personally have March 26th, April 23 PM. 26 PM, May 24, June 13 available. One of my favorite events every year is the Bondy Bait Slam. This is the only all casting tournament that happens annually on Lake St. Clair. This year I fished it with good friend and clients John Ringenbach and Neil Butara. In prefishing I knew we had a solid strategy however with the weather conditions showing frontal and windy I knew the bite was going to be hot meaning tons of fish were going to be caught and we needed to pile them up. We started out the tournament in a small storm that broke up right as the event began. About 10 minutes into the event I felt the subtle tick on my line that is usually synonymous with big fish, set the hook into a brick wall and landed a thick 50.25 incher. This fish started a feverous morning that saw us landing 5 fish by noon and losing 3 more. The afternoon saw the bite get a bit tougher with more short strikes as well as fatigue wearing on us. We lost several more fish including back to back 50+ inchers I had hooked. Luckily Neil landed a nice 44 incher in the 10th hour of the tournament to turn the tide of losses and get us back moving the right direction. To end Saturday John came through with a beautiful 47 incher with 20 mins left to go in the marathon 12 hour casting day.

Going into day two our 8 fish total was only good enough for second place with the leaders having 7 fish but some incredible size had there point total slightly above ours. Regardless we knew we needed to catch on the short six hour day Sunday. The conditions were a world of difference compared to Saturday bringing flat calm and post frontal. We started out the morning with a heartbreaking figure 8 miss followed by next to no action. Then right on one of our hot w**d pockets I had a 49.75 incher come up and hammer my bait on the last pull from the boat. After a super quick measure and pic I released the fish and on my next cast I got hammered by a 47.5 incher. Those two fish put us solidly in the lead thanks to the slow day. Then with about an hour to go John added a nice 41 inch tiger to give us an amazing 11 fish total for the event. The total was enough to take 1st place. We landed all of our fish on Medusas by Chaos Tackle Company and pounder bulldawgs by Musky Innovations all while running ###H Musky Innovations rods which greatly contributed to our success.

A huge thanks John and Neil for fishing with me each year as well as the tournament directors who put this event on. This event is very well organized and really is a lot of fun to fish. The catch totals are normally very high and almost every team puts fish on the board. If you have the chance, next year everyone should consider making it up for this great event. One funny part of guide life is that you always take amazing pictures of clients fish and they normally take Horrible pictures of any fish you catch. Just a fun irony. Michael Z. Ruchalski definitely DOESNT fall into this group! His great photography skills combined with a bit more of a long arm hold than I intended made this 50+ inch November fish look beyond amazing. She hammered a pounder bulldawg by Musky Innovations on a 3XH Musky Innovations Rod. Sadly this fish should have been overshadowed by the fish Mike hooked boat side which was Giant. Always a bigger fish on lakes like clair. AFTCO AFTCO Freshwater Ranger Boats Mercury Marine Cortland Line Costa Sunglasses Smooth Moves Seats

Last summer we saw some amazing prefrontal action on the lake but none better then July 20th when Eric Bisko jumped in the boat. He started out the day right with a solid 50.25 medusa eating beast on the first drift. After a few hours that saw only one more small fish hitting the net Eric landed a 52 incher that hit on a perfect figure 8 done in 2-3 foot waves, not an easy ask. At that point we only had about 30 more mins until we needed to head in to beat the storm. I told him that no matter what we needed to be heading to the dock at 245. At 248 Eric had an even bigger fish up to the boat and after 2 turns on the 8 she smashed his Medusa. After a short fight we landed a tanker 52.75 incher, Erics third 50+ of the day. After we released her we didn't make another cast and started the 40 min sprint to the dock were we made it into the cannel before the skies opened up and the rain+lighting started. Amazing day all around and congrats to Eric on an amazing accomplishment. Three fish over 50 in a day for a boat is truly amazing and three for one person is something I have only seen done a few times in my whole career. I don't do a lot of jigging however when the fish are glued to the bottom you have to change your approach. On this day in early November the fish seemed completely reluctant to leave the bottom so we switched to jigging rippin dawgs by Musky Innovations. Shortly after that Keith Barton scored this 50+ incher.

Here is a super thick November 50 incher that hit a Musky Innovations Ultra dawg right at last light. The Ultra dawg is perfectly designed for maximum water displacement and is absolutely deadly in low light or dark. I normally put a 2 oz weight on them to get them down a little deeper and the fish absolutely love them! Also its important with this application to be using a ###H Musky Innovations rod because no other rod on the market can handle something this heavy. Sometimes big fish catches go as planned and other times they go completely wrong. On this insane catch client Bill hooked this 49.5 incher on a figure 8 using a Marvin 88 by Pandemonium Tackle. It was super rough with big waves right before a storm front. The fish immediately barrel rolled twice, rolling up his Musky Innovations rod breaking off the first few inches. After that move the fish ran right for my FFS pole. The fish went between the boat and the pole before looping back out and going toward the front with the line wrapped 180 degrees around the pole. With the line wrapped around the FFS pole the fish then drove hard for the front of the boat pulling bill into the pole using it like a pivot point snapping it twice more. Somehow despite all that our Cortland Line held and we managed to still land this fish although the rod was a casualty of war. Only two days till the Western Pennsylvania Muskie Max show! This is the last show of the year and is always fantastic! Be sure and come out and talk Lake St Clair muskies and Detroit River walleye with Capt. Jason Quintano, Capt. Ed Pascua and myself.

Todays fish was a Giant August fatty for good friend of client Bill. It was his second ever 50 incher coming only 2 weeks after his first and was by far his heaviest fish to date. The fish hammered a Medusa by Chaos Tackle Company. AFTCO AFTCO Freshwater Ranger Boats Mercury Marine Cortland Line

This weekend we have the Western Pennsylvania Muskie Max just outside of Pittsburg. This is always one of our best shows plus we will be running the Musky Innovations booth at the show selling the amazing line of new rubber including the new Quad Dawg. Also we will have a full line up of the Musky Innovations rods including there new 9 foot one piece rods, no telescoping just a solid one piece blank. I am absolutely pumped to use these new rods. The telescoping rods are fine and allow us to ship rods however one piece is lighter, stronger and doesn't rotate or move.

Today's fish is a giant November fatty that smashed a quad dawg first thing in the morning. Big shout out to friend and client Ryan Boni on the net with this one, she wasn't easy to handle

Last July saw a bunch of 50+ inch fish hit the net however they cant all hit the magic mark and we also caught plenty of 49 inch fish as well. All of which should be 50's this season. Here are two 49 inchers I caught on back to back days both on Medusas by Chaos Tackle Company. On both days I gave the medusa to my clients, tweaked their cadence and they scored big fish. Pastor Mark has been on quite a hot streak in my boat the last few years and on this day in September he really hit gold with back to back fish over 50 inches. The first was this thickly built and beautifully marked 51 incher which he landed on a Marvin 88 by Pandemonium Tackle. After I added two d***s to the boat total he followed up his tally with a nice 50 incher also landed on a Marvin 88 making for an incredible 4 fish day. After Neil Butara started the day out with the thick 49.5 incher I posted yesterday he then ended the day with this great 50.5 incher which inhaled a pounder bulldawg by Musky Innovations on the figure 8! If your looking for a fall fatty last November and December saw some great fishing for both numbers and especially for size. I cant wait to see what the low water in 2024 will bring us this fall, should be fantastic.
