How My Passion Became My Business
It’s official! I am in the tour business. My passion for organizing trips began after I helped chaperone my first school trip to Washington, D.C. in 1977. I then accompanied students from Elgin High School to the North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN) sponsored by Georgetown University every year until 1990. From 2004 through 2017, I took River Valley High School students to the Nation’s Capital to participate in a mock congress hosted by the Junior State of America (JSA). When you add in dozens of summer trips with family and friends, I have had the unique privilege of learning fascinating facts and historical nuggets from hundreds of tour guides that I am now anxious to share with you.
In 2005, I began a quest to visit every major league baseball stadium. My fifteenth annual baseball excursion this August took us to to the east coast to see the Yankees, Red Sox, and Mets
Then in 2009, some of my former teaching colleagues from Elgin asked me if I would put together a tour to Washington, D.C., and the Marion Wanderers was born. Our eleventh trip this June took us back to New York City. Among our other destinations have been, San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia, Montreal, San Antonio, Mount Rushmore, New Orleans, Annapolis, and Williamsburg. The special bond that I have developed with these dear friends over the past ten years is reflected in the name my wife, Susan, and I have chosen for our business.
If you like travel that is entertaining and informational without the worry of planning, become a Carefree Wanderer and join us for one of our upcoming trips.
