Save this post for your reference if you are coming to Peru in 2025. * Peru’s high elevation: 17,040ft which could be the same elevation than M Everest bae camp. * Located 3-3.5 hours from Cusco.( day trip) * Roughly 3 hours round trip hike to get there. * So, don’t book to visit right when you land in Cusco, first acclimate in Cusco for a few days. * To avoid altitude sickness take your altitude meds and chew Coca leafs. * There is small shops along the hike you can buy drinks, snacks and some souvenirs. * You can ride a horse for extra soles but we usually Walk. * Along the hike the air will feel thin and wear good shoes the terrain is rough. * Be prepared for all kind of weather. * Pack light layers.( 1 down and rain jacket is good) * Extra soles to tip for pictures, snacks and toilet. * You can do a bus tour from Cusco for $40 but it takes a lot longer with a group with all the pick up and drop offs (leave 3.5 and get back around 5 pm). * Booking with FSE you will be in good hands all time, private service,English speaking guide, organic food. * FSE will pick you up at 4:30 am and get back 3pm, still you beat all the big tour buses. Vilcabamba: an ancient Inca ruins that one day used to be the palace of Manco Inca, which now days is well know by Vilcabamba the Last Capital of the Incas. Rak’achaka valley: well known by locals as evergreen valley, it’s our favorite campsite, perfect spot to watch sunset and sunrise. A hidden reward if you are a morning person. Lake LAZUNA: Nestled between rugged peaks, Lazuna is known for its striking turquoise color, which come from glacier runoff, reveled by locals and it’s often used as a site for traditional Andean ceremonies. Mojón Pass (Highest point): Sitting at 1500ft, the Mojón pass is one of the highest point in Perus trek route, the challenging ascent rewards you with breath-taking views of the sacred Salkantay mountain and Machu Picchu M, Salkantay believed by the Incas and now days as a sacred deity. Cloudy forest: As you descend the high Andes into the cloudy forest you will witness the lush transformation of the landscape, home to orchids, hummingbirds and the national bird of Peru “cock of the Rock”, and even the elusive spectacle Bear. Machu Picchu: A UNESCO world heritage site. Machu Picchu is not only an architectural wonder but also an ecological sanctuary, housing unique flora and fauna found only in this cloudy forest ecosystem.
