IMPORTANT INFORMATION for Rocky Point Memorial Weekend 2022.
➡️ The Lukeville border will ONLY be open until 10pm on FRIDAY May 27th and MONDAY May 30th!! Thursday (26th), Saturday (28th), and Sunday (29th) the Lukeville border hours will be the normal hours of opening at 6am and closing at 8pm sharp!
➡️ The city has already announced they are expecting a 100% occupancy rate this weekend which means it will be very busy.
• Peñasco is having water issues like many other places. With a 100% occupancy rate it is really going to put a strain on the system. Please don’t waste water!!
➡️ Be careful when driving from the border to Peñasco and then when leaving town to go home. There have been a lot of accidents lately from people speeding. I know everyone wants to get to their destination, we just want you to get there safely. Slow down, pay attention to the road, and enjoy the ride.
➡️ There are stingrays in the Sea of Cortez. It is recommended to wear water shoes and do the stingray shuffle of dragging your feet thru the sand as you walk in the ocean.
➡️ YES, you need to have Mexican auto insurance to drive legally in Mexico. Liability insurance is MANDATORY. Your US insurance typically will not cover you. There are a few that will if you buy the extra insurance. You can also find Mexican Auto insurance in AJO and at the The Why Not Travel Store in Why. I personally purchase thru a local company Portugal Insurance Rocky Point and pay for the year what most companies will charge you for a week of the insurance.
➡️ Very IMPORTANT: Check…double check…and triple check for any guns and/or ammo. It is not legal to bring either into Mexico without a permit from the defense ministry. You will be arrested immediately and taken to jail. Even if you accidentally bring a bullet, you will be taken to jail, have to pay huge fines, and a penalty of up to 5 years in a Mexican prison. This literally happens almost every weekend, and I don’t want this to happen to you! If you realize you have your gun or ammo the Why Not Travel Store has gun locker and you can safely store it there and pick it up on your way home.
