Happy Loy Krathong Day from Agoda Thailand!

Here are some snaps from our Loy Krathong event in Bangkok. Thai and international Agodans had fun decorating little krathongs (floating baskets) with flowers and floating them in a small pool in the office while savoring somtam (papaya salad) and learning more about the festival.

Loy Krathong is a Thai festival celebrated annually, where people float decorated baskets (krathongs) on water to honor the goddess of water, seek forgiveness, and make wishes for good fortune.

"Competitive racing has expanded my horizons in countless ways. Work can get intense, and I’ve found that sports are the best way to relieve stress and stay balanced.

I started running seriously after moving to Thailand, and after completing a few marathons, I took on an ultramarathon in Ladakh, India. It was a serious race: 72 km long, with a 1,500-meter climb to a 5,359-meter pass, followed by a steep descent in thin, dry air. I finished 19th out of 209.

Endurance sports have fueled my desire to explore new places, as each race becomes an adventure, taking me to new destinations and connecting me with athletes from around the world. Each location offers its own challenges, from mountain trails to open water swims, making every finish line even more rewarding.

Plus, it’s a great way to discover places I might not have visited otherwise. This year, I completed several triathlons in Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia, including my first full Ironman. I even achieved my first podium finish, placing second at the Sri Lanna Triathlon in Chiang Mai, Thailand!

Agoda has continually supported my races in ways that matter. For my ultramarathon in Ladakh, our Remote Work Program allowed me to arrive ten days early and acclimate to the altitude, ensuring I was at my best for race day. Our customizable benefits program and employee discounts also help me save on travel expenses, so I can continue pursuing this passion.

I’m grateful to work for a company that values balance and encourages us to pursue our personal goals as fiercely as our professional ones."

Our pitch competition empowers employees to think like entrepreneurs. Under the mentorship of Agoda's leaders, they develop innovative ideas and turn them into actionable business cases. This year, over 80 participants joined the journey.

Agoda Buddies, a team comprising members from Product, Supply, Customer Experience, and Finance, pitched an impressive branding initiative and secured first place. Congratulations to the winners: Akshay Kakani, Nelson Moreno, Shu Yen Sia, and Zeeshan Sayed. To celebrate, our CEO Omri treated them to a memorable dinner at Sühring.

"As a Partner Executive in the Motel Outreach Team, I help motel owners understand how to use Agoda to increase their reservations and revenue. A lot of owners are initially hesitant about using a global OTA, but it’s incredibly rewarding when they start to see significant growth through our platform.

I joined Agoda as part of the New Partner Team, introducing motel owners who were only familiar with domestic OTAs to our global platform. Witnessing their progress inspired me to continue supporting them in the Motel Outreach Team.

Balancing work and parenting as a mom of two young children is challenging, but Agoda’s flexible work arrangements have helped me become a ‘supermom’ who can succeed in both. We’re able to work from home three days a week and participate in the Remote Work Program, which lets us work from different locations for up to a month.

I’ve had many happy moments while working for Agoda, but the most memorable was when I shed tears of earnest joy with my co-workers after winning Best Dressed at AgodaFest. I was so happy that I unexpectedly burst into tears while receiving the prize on stage, filling the entire room with laughter."

“Transparency and diversity aren’t just buzzwords at Agoda. Those values are really built into our culture, making it a joy to come to work.

I joined Agoda Budapest as a member of the German Customer Service team, assisting customers with their bookings, hotel concerns, and platform queries. I also work closely with partners, hotels, and Agodans from across the company. As a native German speaker, I love helping my colleagues with any challenges and finding ways to enhance our customer communication.

The German team is incredibly bright and full of curiosity. Despite our age difference, I feel welcomed and valued by my team. They keep me young, and I look forward to working with them every day.

I first moved to Budapest as a child, but the city’s charm still amazes me even after more than 40 years here. The stunning bridges over the Danube, the cultural and architectural richness, and the architectural beauty make it a remarkable place to live. I particularly enjoy wandering the small streets in Pest and dining in atmospheric garden restaurants in Buda.”

Last week, we hosted an Agoda Town Hall at our Singapore headquarters, where our CEO Omri took the stage alongside Laura Houldsworth, Managing Director of Asia Pacific at Booking.com. Laura shared insights into her career transitions across roles and industries. She also discussed with Omri her thoughts on the relationship between Booking.com and Agoda and the current competitive landscape.
