Probably the most value for money popmart figurine if building from ‘Lego’ bricks is your kind of game😅

I’m happy to get Pucky for the Fortunate Hand Series Block Figures. I can’t imagine buying the whole box and building each😭

No luck with the spring festival couplets magnet though.
Wanted SP Destiny Knot or Molly New Year Flavour Shop or a Chinese greeting couplet, but stuck with Lantern Pavilion Kubo, English greeting some more😪

Anyway used a basket as the magnet backing, creating a dimensional look. With a Year 2023 Capitol mooncake box makes the overall look very festive 🧨

Japanese Garden

Likely one of the least visited tourist attractions in Singapore. It is basically a garden with not many architectural structures, unlike the Chinese Garden.
Jurong Lake Gardens has a number of nice landscaped areas, I thought Japanese Garden faces a huge competition.
Until I was at the Guest House.

Guest House comprises of a huge hall and a function room. The landscaping surrounding the buildings makes it alluring. Think events, parties:)

I love the Moonrise Bridge with the wooden shelters and fences giving strong zen vibes, as well as the Silver Moon Terrace.

It is also nice to walk over to Chinese Garden via the Double Beauty Bridge to the Harvest Moon Terrace, also with the Japanese wooden shelters with a birdseye view of Japanese Garden.

Chinese Garden

2 of the original gardens have reopened in Jurong Lake Gardens.
The typical arch entrance, arch bridges, pagodas, lotus pond. I love the bonsai garden most with its garden and architecture fit for period dramas.

Shanghai Astronomy Museum

This got me at the exterior.
Such futuristic, grand dome shaped looking design.

Much thought has been put into its design and visitor experience, from the visual and immersive sense of how time and space interacts. The vastness, openness, colours of the galaxy within the museum.

Worth a visit.

Day out Joo Chiat
1. Lunch at HJH Maimunah

This is Nasi Padang galore, topped with all the Malay Kueh Kueh and desserts.

Opted for grilled chicken leg, spicy sweet Ilan bills peanut, Bergedil, lontong veg, chilli stingray. They gave us all the varieties of chilli. I even mistook one as hae bi hiam.
But it’s actually stir fry savoury dessicated coconut.

2. Cata Coffee
Along the stretch of Joo Chiat Place, which is not so crowded with cafes. This is a standing cafe with bakes collaboration. Nice aesthetic deco but no seats that’s just…

Latte is decent ie not too strong. The orange pistachio cake is moist with orange peel taste.

3. Grafunkt
This high end furnishing store has shifted from various malls to this very 70s building at Joo Chiat Dunman road intersection. Well seeing how the furnitures like beds, dining tables, sofas are placed, it does evoke a sense of home in a heritage area.

Rivervale Shores

When driving along Upper Serangoon to Punggol, you will notice new developments on the right, where Serangoon River runs.
The park connector has been developed way before the various pockets of residential developments are built.
So either way, by car or foot, you will notice when the new developments are ready.

Rivervale Shores is the latest one. It is HDB’s largest BTO. At 16 blocks, it does not sound a lot. But on foot and with at least 3 playgrounds, it definitely ain’t small. I enjoy checking out playgrounds so these are some nicer shots I’ve taken.

I don’t know why I kept thinking it’s near to Anchorvale in Sengkang, perhaps I was confused by all the new hawker centers sprouting up in the Northeastern region. But if you are familiar with Sengkang, Sengkang Central road splits Sengkang into the earlier developed ‘Rivervale’ / ‘Compassvale’ and later developed ‘Anchorvale’ precincts.
So rightly, anything named ‘Rivervale’ should be near to Rivervale. Though Rivervale Shores occupies a triangular plot surrounded by Sengkang East Dr, Sungei Serangoon PC and TPE. Which by instinct, you won’t feel it’s in Sengkang.

And if you exit from the PC, you can be confused if you are in Hougang, Buangkok, Sengkang or Punggol!

Dahongpao Snow Cap Milk Tea

I usually do away with whipped cream but just feel like trying this.

This pink whipped cream looks pretty, tastes good too.
It comes with a dash of chopped floral nutty garnishing.

PS the osmanthus snow cap is white cream.

Read: Book?

Checked out National Design Centre as I was in the vicinity. Nothing really interesting, so I went across to National Library Board as the staff at NDC told me there are exhibitions as well.

The foyer had this books placed in a circle exhibit. Somehow, it made me recall my first experience in 2018 with art in a moving form at Teshima Art Museum.
After which I went up to the 10th floor for the Read:Book? exhibition. According to instructions, I should visit from 10th to 7th floor. The exhibits are placed along the walkways which is pretty unusual. But what’s nice is when you see it afar. With the full glass backdrop, it looks pretty good.

Aesthetics aside, there is content. I actually spent time reading the written words on the acrylic panels against natural light. Most exhibitions, I’m more interested in the aesthetics than content.

Since this is an exhibition as a part of Design Week, it touches on the user experience of a book reader/user. It prompts the visitors to think about the rationale for a book design, from touch to smell. This is the part that attracts me most.

Some amusing parts are how does one hold a book without a spine, imagine Time magazine using hardcover, inviting the visitors to locate 6000 bookmarks with instructions, hidden within the books at Levels B1 and 8 of the NLB at the end of the exhibition!

Good work!
