B**g Jagoi: A Destination, one of its kind
Tara tara tara ooooo .... Jak Mowah Ke’ B**g Jagoi.
Its the famous shout out made by the visitors and tourist visiting the site. Every postage of the shout out is a memories for the Bijagoi’s community as an appreciation to all that managed to visit their ancestry village. Located 294m above the sea level, B**g Jagoi village has its own 200 plus years of history. Rich in its culture and tradition thus as well the untouched nature within the communal reserved area.
Being abandoned for years after the last family migrated to the foothill in 2010 has made one of the elders Mdm Jima to keep in guarding the village. On her own at that age, she cant kept the area clean but its a great pleasure for her to received visitors doing hiking almost every week. Regular domestic hikers know her history and every time they made a visit, the memories of aunt Jima will auto tuned from their lips.
The concern of elders and the community of BiJagoi’s in regards of keeping the place kept was not a hope of one or two, but the whole community. Starting its small but make it move is the spirit that has been brought up by the young Bijagoi’s and the active elders in ensuring the village will once again make them proud. The spirits of the elders and their memories are being kept in the family photo albums. Three homestay operators in B**g Jagoi make it a start by keeping up with more interesting packages, and services to theirs guests. Jiming’s Homestay, Dorod Jagoi Homestay and Opap Homestay each respectively operated by Mdm Jiming, Mr Jemat and Mdm Ahmian, a local Bijagoi’s that share passion in sharing their memories and living hood with the tourist. Bijagoi’s hospitality is at its own level and since their official opening in 2017, thousands of visitors had experienced this.
A young agropreuners, Mr Alex is keeping the village to be at its own agricultural stage. This young visionaries agropreuners want B**g Jagoi to be at its kind in providing fresh veges and fruits to be served to any visitors or guests. He uses organic plantation approach and diversified his agriculture product which has attracted many to visit his small organic farm. The strawberry project is successful and looking forwards for more in years ahead.
Mdm Mesan, is the community chief. Operating the lunch package to the visitors is an innovation in their tourism product. Almost every week, her cooked meal will create memories buzz to the visitors and its wont be the last but a repeated visit just to get the taste of her made local cuisine. Fresh ingredients and a pinch of love is her most remarkable secret in keeping the visitors to had lunch at B**g Jagoi.
Mr Wadell does not have his hand stop from working every week. This young manager does enjoy managing the two years old unique tourism destination, and his master degree education in environment management from UNIMAS does help him in managing the area accordingly and the training provided thru MKMF project in 2017 prepared him well for the position he is holding now. Luxury in attribute to his life experience and the intangible satisfaction in sharing the Bijagoi’s pride to visitors is one he received in daily basis. The smiles on their faces is one that could not describe. The challenges as young manager that manged the destination does make him more passionate in keeping the Bijagoi’s dream alive every day. The tagline of MyKampung MyFuture does really reflected in his career of choice.
Special local guides at B**g Jagoi consist of the young and elders in Bijagoi that has undergone proper training in managing the safety of the visitors as well as sharing the magnificent history of the community to those who use their service. Their are the Bijagoi’s that will sustained the culture and tradition of Bijagoi’s community and more young local will be recruited in ensuring the sustainability of this culture/tradition inheritance. Mr Juis is the famous local guide that do share tremendous amount of story to their visitors. His persona does touch hearts of others especially his story telling skills. Another experience guide is Mr Miku also an experience local brew maker does has its own persona when bringing the visitors to the ancient village. There are about 16 local guides in total including Mr Reagan (the humorous) , Mr Kevin (the Muscular), Mdm Sabrina (the bubbly and multi-talented) and more to mentioned. Each of them has its own characters. Nothing obvious rather than the persona will make you fall in love with B**g Jagoi.
The B**g Jagoi Ambassador, Ms Agnes described B**g Jagoi as a place she make memories throughout her childhood. Being an ambassador for B**g Jagoi is an honored as due to her active anticipation in cultural activities at B**g Jagoi ever since and as well in the cultural pageantry in Sarawak. Her face has been used in the promotional materials for B**g Jagoi Tourism and its a great opportunity as well for her to participate actively in B**g Jagoi Tourism promotion done throughout the year.
Lots to be shared to the rest about B**g Jagoi yet, those who have not made a step to this ancient Bidayuh village, do come and book your stay. Try all the services made available and its for sure an amazing journey of hiking and trekking in Kuching. A 45 minutes journey to the village and another 5 minutes journey to the summit is once a hikers like mine managed to make. The journey remind me of how life supposed to be, when once feel tired, don’t forget to rest in between. The summit is the beginning but the journey that count the most.
