Some of our wildlife is actually thriving in this heat in my mountains. Regular encounters with this beautiful, somewhat fearsome creature, like some relic of a bygone age. Ladies and gentlemen I give you the most wonderful Ocellated lizard or Jewelled lizard (Timon lepidus).

At this time of year my local butterflies are really putting on a show, helped by some late flowering plants acting as nectar centres for these beautiful insects. Here Wall Brown (Lasiommata-megera) pose nicely as they gather their support for the day's rigours.

Always love seeing my local dragonflies. Here a Red-veined Darter (Sympetrum fonscolombii) showing in the obelisk position, a way for this beauty to lose body heat on these scorching days. A little bit more of my nature from the wilds of Serranía de Ronda.

Local riverside birding is great at the moment with Nightingales singing, Olivaceous Warbler arriving, Melodious Warblers rattling, blue streaks as Kingfisher flashes by and Little Ringed Plover scampering around the river margins. Life is good.

We will also be holding an ABS field meeting on the 20th April to visit Llanos de Libar and the bird festival. We invite you all to join us and we will also have magazines, embroidered patches, stickers, checklists and newly arrived Polo Shirts.

ABS are proud of our association with the Montagu’s Harrier project and our funding reached over 10,000 euros this year to assist with facilitating the work carried out by the group’s many volunteers. Although this year was a difficult one for Montagu’s in the region, the project was still able to contribute to sustaining a micro population locally in the La Janda area. Please visit our news section on the following link for both the interim report and end of season summary. There is a facility for people to donate to conservation efforts at the end of the article.
