The State is approximated to be slightly more than 124,000 Square Kilometers. According to the latest census report (2008), Jonglei State is approximated to be a home to 1.3 Million citizens. Having been adversely affected by the worst ever civil war, Jonglei state lags behinds in terms of development and all efforts are underway to uplift this largest state of the semi autonomous South Sudan. Jonglei is also a home to the late Dr. John Garang de Mabior (June 23, 1945 � July 30, 2005) was a Sudanese politician and rebel leader. After voting for secession early this year, Jonglei state has so far received the almost 19,000 returnees by February 2011 from the neighboring countries of Uganda, Kenya, DRC, Ethiopia and Northern Part of Sudan are part of the ongoing While the majority of returnees now proceed directly to final destinations, some groups still require assistance with onward transport.
