🏆 What does it feel like to win? 🏆

Well, our competition winner honestly couldn’t believe the news! I’m not surprised, having had the pleasure to make such phone calls before – sadly there are so many scams over the phone these days, I am used to people not believing the news when I make the first call. Especially as, to ensure we aren't biased we don’t even ask for the names of the people entering our competition – there really isn’t much I can do apart from break the news, expect disbelief and wait a few hours before calling again once my email has also been read.

Here is what Suzanne, our winner of our 2022 walking holiday competition remembers:

🗨To be able to walk the Mont Blanc Massif with Mont Blanc Treks seems like a dream. I had entered the competition on the Cicerone website, being an avid fan of their books, but that was back in March and I had totally forgotten I had even entered. I couldn’t quite believe it when Jane contacted me - and had to even be reminded I had entered and what I had written!
However, with everything now booked, I am so excited looking forward to the trip immensely🗨

Hiking the Alps 2022 - Weather

As always summer trekking in the Alps involves having temperatures as high as the 30c and as low as 6c in a single day!!

As you walk, expect ALL types of weather!

There is considerably less snow than usual and temperatures have been much higher than normal - but all this can change!

Despite temperatures soaring in the valley, you must still prep' for cold and wet weather and carry the essentials at all times. And for the sun, remember a high factor sunscreen, sunglasses and hat.

The Summer Season of 2022 has started out here in the Alps, with people already out hiking the trails of the Gran Paradiso and beyond.

After a very lean and short winter in terms of snow cover, followed by a warm spring the trails are rapidly becoming snow free and any remaining snow patches pose very few Issues.

We have our winner!

The winner of a free guided walking holiday of the Tour du Mont Blanc is a lovely lady from the UK who made the shortlist because we loved the challenge that she had set for herself recently.

Her name is Suzanne, she has never trekked in Europe and is very excited about joining us in August! Suzanne has agreed to tell us about her journey - in getting fit for the holiday and the highs and lows of the trek itself, so you will be able to follow her as she begins to get ready for her own Tour du Mont Blanc.

She was picked at random from our worthy list of shortlisted people from all over the world. And we would just like to extend a big "thankyou" to everyone who entered. You may have noticed that we didn't even ask for names this year on the entry form, just your answer and your email address to contact you, so that everyone - no matter their gender or location could see that they would be treated equally and a huge number of you responded.

We are sorry we took some time to get the shortlist ready but it's because we considered every single answer and are truly overwhelmed by what trekking in the mountains means to you guys.

For those of you who subscribed to our newsletter, we will be in touch shortly - we only send 4 newsletters per year, but want to welcome all of you into our community.

Trek holiday bookings are now closed for season 2022, even for Self-Guided Treks.

Why? Because we care more about giving good service to all our clients and about the mountains that we make our living from, than we do about making money.

Don’t get me wrong, we aren’t a charity and we definitely want to make money! However, we started this business 12 years ago from a love of the mountains in and around Mont Blanc. We understand how magical walking in the mountains can be and we strive to pass this on to our clients. On your trek with us, we hope to enrich your experience with every step, by sharing our passion and our expertise as International Mountain Leaders.

Therefore, we don’t want too many clients for us to manage effectively, or to put too much pressure on accommodations or our transport partners. And we do want to ensure that we work environmentally to keep the mountains an unspoilt, utterly awesome place to walk.

We are offering a fully guided trek of the Tour du Mont Blanc, with accommodation, food, transfers and baggage transfers all taken care of.

If you want more information on what walking the Tour du Mont Blanc entails, we have tons on our website! But don’t just take our word for how fabulous this walking holiday is. It is a trek that is on the bucket list of hikers worldwide.

Unbeknownst to us at the time, .Wandering (look her up on Insta - she has a blog with nearly a million followers!) took this hike with us in 2019, enjoying the Tour du Mont Blanc with her extended family (including a baby in a carrier!) so you can take a look at her really informative piece on hiking the TMB with children.

What motivates you to get outside even when it’s not great weather?

We live in the mountains and so luckily we enjoy snowy winters and warm sunny summers. But its not all sunshine and rainbows – when it rains it really rains and it can be cold and windy too.

And yet still we go outside. I think we are actually addicted to the feeling we get when we are wandering in the mountains? Do you think that’s possible?

Having dogs helps with the motivation of course – they do not care what the weather is doing and find fun in every single walk! Having small children is also a motivation as (like dogs!) they tend to go stir crazy if they are cooped up for more than a morning! But as they have got older, they glue themselves to a screen on bad weather days and are perfectly happy to stay like that the entire day if they re allowed!

Am I fit enough to enjoy a walking holiday in the mountains?

We’re not gonna lie – you definitely need a certain level of fitness to enjoy a trekking holiday in the mountains.

All of the treks we offer are demanding you will be traveling over rugged and mountainous terrain with a sustained amount of ascent and descent on a daily basis. Make sure you are aware of the daily distances travelled and the height gain & descent so you know what to expect.
