A few weeks ago we caught up with Deb and Carolyn as they glided along frozen Lake Windermere by skis and by sled. Deb has a kick sled which allows you to glide on snow, or ice similarly to how you would use a scooter.

The ~30k maintained ice-way has a path for ice skating, classic skiing, skate skiing, fat biking, sledging and walking. It provides winter sport lovers another place to recreate in the Columbia Valley.

This is Brad, the sole maintenance manager of the worlds longest skating path, the Lake Windermere Whiteway.
When Brad took on the maintenance role he didn't realize a celebrity status would go along with it. Folks in the Columbia Valley refer to him as a local legend, maintenance-man Brad, and even the ice scientist. Brad says that "people clap when I go by, they vow and do all sorts of funny stuff".

Have you ever participated in the Bonspiel on the Lake? This iconic event is located on frozen Lake Windermere alongside the Invermere Snowflake Festival. Every year the Invermere & District Curling Centre spends hours taming the wild ice on the shores of Kinsmen beach in preparation for over 60 teams from around the world, or at least around Canada to duel it out in one of Canadas favourite pastimes - curling.
