8 ways to save money on your trip to Dubrovnik (Save for later!)

1.) Find cheap places to eat -
Barba, Pizzeria Tabasco, Presa, TuttoBene and Pekara (bakeries) dotted around town
2.) Visit in Off season (Late October to early March) or Shoulder season (Early May to June, September to early October). I visited in May and it’s less busy and more affordable
3.) Catch the airport shuttle instead of getting a taxi - 55kuna one way/ 80kuna return
4.) Hike up (and down) Mount Srd for stunning views for free instead of the cable car (200kuna return) OR cable car up (110kuna one way) and hike back down
5.) Enjoy the free beaches in the area - Check out my reel on Dubrovnik beaches!
6.) Enjoy a Buza bar sunset drink without the prices - BYOB and walk down to the lower platforms with no chairs or tables and enjoy!
7.) If you pay to Walk the city walls, make sure you visit Fort Lovrijenac as it’s included for free.
8.) Grocery stores outside the city walls seem to be a little cheaper

If you have more than a couple of days in Dubrovnik, you should definitely do a day trip (or two)!  From Dubrovnik, there is plenty to explore, from beaches to fascinating coastal towns, enchanting bays, and national parks in this stunning part of the Adriatic.

Welcome to Mostar 🇧🇦!

Mostar is in the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina and is still culturally influenced by the Ottoman empire’s rules. So walking around felt a little bit like being in Turkey which is so different to Dubrovnik. I spent a day uncovering the city through a day trip from Dubrovnik via GetYourGuide]. I learnt so much about this city and it’s meticulously preserved history.
✨AD|Pr invite
Mostar is most known for its old Turkish houses and the old Stari Most bridge!

Some tips for planning a day trip to Mostar:
1.) Book your tour via GetYourGuide]
2.) Pick a small group as it makes getting through the border easier
3.) Take your passport, you’ll need it for the numerous border crossings (up to 12!)
4.) Have some Croatian kuna or Euros with you to buy souvenirs and to cover entry fees, cards are also accepted
5.) Bring your swimsuit to have a swim at Kravice waterfalls
6.) Try a traditional Cevapi which is grilled meat in soft bread with cheese and some baklava, delicious!
7.) Copper is huge in Mostar, if you like getting souvenirs, get something with copper.

It was an awesome day and I would recommend it if you’re in Dubrovnik and have the time. Would you consider visiting Bosnia?

Come explore Liverpool at Christmas 🎄 with me and ! | AD

Last week, I hopped on a coach to check out the Christmas Markets and lights around Liverpool and it was such a great day! It’s only an hour and a half from Manchester, perfect for a day trip.

The coach journey was super comfortable with free WiFi and even a toilet on board! If you’re travelling home for Christmas or checking out local Christmas markets, you should consider coach travel. For one, it’s very affordable, there’s an extensive network and much more environmentally friendly than driving yourself. It also means you don’t have to worry about petrol or parking 🙌🏾!

When was the last time you took a coach? And if you haven’t, would you consider it?

5 tips for Enjoying Solo Travel [Save for later!]

Enjoying solo travel comes naturally to some people. For others, like me, we have to find ways to fully enjoy and fall in love with. But you can have fun solo travelling, trust me, I have! So here are some ways you can also enjoy solo travel more:

1. Talk to Locals and other travellers - Look out for someone travelling alone or even a couple, smile, say Hi and if they say Hi back, you can strike up a conversation!

2. Don’t Over-plan - Unplanned time and spontaneous activities can be the most magical, fun and best times! Go with the flow!

3. Treat yourself to dinner - Don’t just grab and go because you’re alone. Take your time, book a nice restaurant , maybe even one with a view, and treat yourself to a nice meal. You deserve it!

4. Sit at the bar - If eating at a table alone seems too daunting, eat at the bar! You’ll likely strike up a conversation with the people next to you

5. Practice self-care - Take care of yourself while you’re solo travelling. Book a massage, lounge by the beach, do yoga. Take these moments to recharge! Namaste 🙏🏾

What else do you do to have fun on solo trips?? Share in the comments, let’s all enjoy solo travel!

How to pick the right person to take pictures of you while travelling solo

It’s a bit of an art, and I’ve had my fair share of mishaps with pictures so zoomed into my face you can count my pores 😂. So, based on my experience, here are e few things to look out for:

1. Go for someone that’s alone. They’re more likely to be patient with you in getting the right shot

2. Scout people who have those big boy cameras, you know the ones with the fat lenses, yeah! They probably know what they’re doing

3. Look for younger people and also pay attention to how they’re dressed. People with good fashion sense tend to be more intuitive when taking pictures

4. Women are way more likely to take better pictures in my opinion and they’ll take multiple shots!

5. Be patient. You might have to wait a while to find the right person
Do you have any pointers you’ve used for picking the right people to take your pictures when travelling solo?? Share in the comments!

About Me

My name is Bisola and I’m a Nigerian girl, born and raised. Well until I was 15 when my family moved to the UK where I now live and work. My days are mostly spent pursuing a career as a full-time railway engineer. And I have been determined to make the most of my 28 days annual leave seeing as much of the world as I can! Thou shalt never be an annual leave waste! Life just feels like a huge practical joke sometimes doesn’t it? So, I spend my lunch breaks browsing flights to random destinations (shhh! Don’t tell my boss ?)

I started BistotheWorld because I’m passionate about helping people, in whatever way I can, and that has seeped into what this blog has become. I started this blog as a way to push myself way out of my comfort zone (Check out my very first post for more about this) and also share my experiences travelling with a full-time job and as a black woman. This blog has now become a means for me to inspire and help as many people as I can to pursue their passions while seeing the world.
