From Animal Shelter: 🐶💕🐕
Our animal control officers responded to a call regarding dogs left inside a vehicle with cracked windows today (outside of a store). The owners felt that they were okay since they were left with cup of water. For those standing in the back of the room, it's very much not okay. Do not leave pets unattended inside vehicles. Even in a matter of a few minutes, the temperature will rise quickly. The vehicle was dangerously hot and the owners showed up just before a window was about to be broken.

We took our temperature gun outside our shelter to measure just how hot the different surfaces were this afternoon. Look at the difference in temperature between asphalt in sun vs. grass. Grass in the sun was 47 degrees cooler than on the black asphalt. Please walk your pet in the shade or grass. Keep potty breaks quick during the middle of the day. Exercise your pet in the mornings or at dusk. Watch out for signs of heat stroke.

All animals outside need access to shade and water. If you see a pet in distress in a vehicle, please contact Franklin PD or us to report ASAP. Our animal control officers will be issuing citations on site.
