Book your 2025 Cedarberg Trip Before it is too late!

How do you explain to someone who has never been to the Cedarberg exactly why they should do it?

Explaining the Cedarberg to someone who has never done it will never give it justice, as you cannot compare it to anything else you can experience in the Western Cape. It is a one of a kind experience and should be on every bucket list.

Every year we have the privilege of taking groups to experience the Cedarberg, This year alone we topped more than 1000 guests who joined us for a trip to the Cedarberg. Our most recent trips having organised grade journeys for Camps Bay High School, Wynberg Boys & SACS.

The groups joining us are mostly planning yearly events for the future, which makes booking permits late a challenge. The Cedarberg Wildnerness area is divided into sectors, and only 50 pax are allowed in a sector at a time. Early bookings ensure you get your preferred dates and guarantee you a breathtaking experience.

Team builders and school trips to the Cedarberg have grown expeditiously this year. The feedback from parents has been incredible in terms of growth and appreciation of returning students. Companies have reported on a stronger sense of community amongst their staff and overall better staff engagements.

The wilderness gives one a time to stop and focus on what is truly important and what we don't appreciate about our everyday lives, especially our families, friends and colleagues.

Booking a trip to the Cedarberg is a fantastic idea for several reasons :

1. Community Building

Hosting a school adventure or team builder in the Cedarberg fosters a sense of community and strengthens relationships and encourages collaboration. It cannot be compared to an event where normal life is "on your doorstep". The vastness of the wilderness area gives us an appreciation of what we take for granted everyday. These adventures enhance our life experiences.

2. Assisting Local Communities

Many of the Cedarberg communities rely heavily on our trips to assist them financially. We also learn and celebrate a local culture far from our norm.

3. Appreciation of Nature

The Cedarberg has a natural beauty with unique characteristics comprising stunning landscapes and natural features. The area has a dramatic landscape, rugged terrain and breathtaking vistas. Towering sandstone formations, deep valleys, natural pools and rolling hills create an awe-inspiring environment.

Hikers can encounter world-famous formations like Maltese Cross, Wolfberg Arch & Lot se Vrou. These natural sculptures, shaped by centuries of erosion, are landmarks in this Wilderness area.

4. Education

Interacting with local communities can emphasize local culture. Nature-based learning enhances the overall experience.

The Cedarberg is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom and is home to unique plant species, including fynbos and the rare snow protea.
Wildlife in the area comprises baboons, dassies (rock hyrax), leopards, buck and a variety of bird species.

The Cedarberg area has ancient San (Bushman) rock art, with sites dating back thousands of years. These art pieces offer a glimpse into the lives of indigenous people who once lived there.

5. Secluded & Peaceful offering Mental Health Benefits

The Cedarberg area is as secluded as it comes. The area brings an immense amount of peace and stress relief from our everyday busy lives.

Our Mental Health suffers daily with the fast pace of city life, social media and urban noise.

The Mental Health benefits comes in terms of serenity of nature, exercise, fresh air and good energy from exploring these mountains. Hiking in the Cedarberg offers visitors time to disconnect from modern life and reconnect with the natural world in an unspoiled environment.

6. A Billion Star Hotel!

This is one way to experience a Billion Star Hotel!

The Cedarberg is the perfect location for stargazing after a day of hiking.

7. Diversity to fit all fitness and interest levels

The hiking trails of the Cedarberg cater to various skill and fitness levels from short, scenic walks to challenging multi-day hikes. The diversity makes it accessible to both casual and seasoned adventurers.

Beyond hiking, the Cedarberg offers rock climbing, bouldering, cave exploration and opportunities to help restore Cedar trees to the Cedarberg.

The combination of natural wonders, cultural history, and serene isolation makes the Cederberg Wilderness a hiking destination unlike any other.

Shared by the family of the hiker who was missing since Saturday, and found yesterday 🙏

Dear all

As the daughters of Dhanan we are grateful to share the details of our father's medical report.

The medical report indicates he past away from a heart attack that took place over a short 3 minute period. He was found in a good condition with a slight smile on his face. It is likely that he knelt down to rest and slowly touched the ground around 5PM on Saturday, 16 November. There was no bodily harm.

We are at peace knowing that he left this world doing what he loved - walking the mountain. The place he was found was a beautiful look out point by a tree, just 10 metres off the main contour path in Newlands Forest.

We express immense respect and gratitude to all the people that volunteered to bring our Dad home. In no particular order, we would like to thank our family, friends, our father's colleagues from the teaching/education fraternity, members of WSAR, SAPs and all members of the public that volunteered.

For family, friends and colleagues, we will provide information regarding the funeral that will take place on Saturday, 23 November. Please look out for the notice.

*Please contact Parusha for information on the funeral if you have not received notice of details by Friday 5PM.* ±27730059601

Please share so we can find him 🥺🥺

Quinton has been missing since Tuesday.

If you are heading out into the Cecilia forest area today please have a look out for him and let Baboon Matters know 🥺😣

A group of volunteers will be out searching for him again today.

Hopefully this isn't another case of humans hurting another one of our baboons 🥺🥺

RIP Ben 🐕🐕🐕

Thank you for your service 🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺

On behalf of the SANParks Honorary Rangers K9 Project Watchdog Management Committee, we would like to express our deepest sadness over the recent event in the Kruger National Park involving one of the K9 anti-poaching dogs. Our hearts go out to the dedicated K9 handler and all those affected by this loss.

Committed to preserving our precious wildlife, the K9 units and their handlers face numerous challenges, often placing themselves in danger to safeguard these lands. This loss reminds us of the bravery and sacrifice involved in protecting our precious natural heritage.

Ben’s service and commitment to wildlife protection were unparalleled, and he lived a life rich with purpose, courage, and loyalty. His legacy in safeguarding our wildlife will be remembered, and his absence will be felt deeply. Our sincere condolences go to the handler, the team, and everyone who had the privilege of working alongside Ben.
