DISCOVERY: Our group came upon a true giant of the forest on this shady jungle afternoon. It’s hard to explain what it feels like to stand in the shade of these ancient trees. 📹: @mohsinkazmitakespictures
We go swimming everyday. It’s up to you if you want to join but you’ll get serious FOMO if you don’t. // The exact source of The Las Piedras River is still unknown. The entire Upper Las Piedras is in extreme wilderness. This water may look silty but it’s some of the cleanest water around.
One of the highlights of our jungle excursions is when we climb the mighty strangler fig. Everybody gets a chance to test their capabilities from the safety of a harness. Take in the rainforest scenery from the viewpoint of the birds and monkeys that curiously observe from a safe distance. // Strangler Figs are parasites that are masters of their niche. Their lifecycle begins in the canopy as a seedling that germinates on trees. As they grow larger they aim to outcompete their host by grabbing as much canopy exposure as they can while growing around the host trees trunk. Mature strangler figs completely surround trees until they die off leaving a large cylindrical void that spans the entire length of the trunk.
We don’t take ourselves too seriously, it’s about playing and swimming in the jungle and our guides make sure you know that!
Cruising into the sunset after swimming at the waterfall near our station. It doesn’t get much better.
One of our favorite parts of our expeditions into the jungle is asking questions to our expert local guide Juan Julio Durand Torres (or JJ for short). Here is a great video of him explaining interesting seeds and fruits we found on the forest floor.
For those who need fresh air, nature, and unforgettable experiences. @tamanduaexpeditions is ready for you.

The warmth of a riverside fire and the active sounds of the forest. The most relaxing part of a long and exciting day exploring the jungle.

We plant an endangered tree on every trip that we have. Today it was a Spanish Cedar that has become a rarity in the jungles of Peru. Someday this tree will tower over the forest providing food and shade for countless forest creatures. 🌎❤️
Tag someone you want to explore the jungle with! Sound on if you want to hear the rain. This beautiful afternoon was all dark and rainy, but those are the best because the jungle looks so... JUNGLE that it's fantastic. .
