Real Talk Time

Only those closest to me know how hard 2024 has been for me. Depression, loss, and grief have really taken their toll, making this year one of the most emotionally difficult of my life.

Maybe you’ve noticed how absent I’ve been the last few months. I’ve been taking care of my clients, while taking care of me too, so my social media game has been sub-par.

To be entirely honest, I didn’t want to take this personal trip to Alaska. Packing was a struggle. Planning it was a struggle. Boarding a 7 hour flight was a struggle.

And struggle is exhausting — especially to an already-spiritually exhausted person.

But today?

Pure joy. Pure wonder. Pure gratitude that I did the hard things and pushed myself a bit harder than I really wanted to.

Today I boarded a boat, then a bus, then a canoe and another canoe (after a 1/4 mile trek in muddy boots) — and it was so exhilarating and awe-inspiring that I still can’t quite believe places like this exist, much less on my own continent.

Alaska. Is. Stunning.

But so is bravery. And being gentle with yourself. And pushing yourself to do things way outside your comfort zone.

I am continually amazed at the magic to be found when I travel. The things I learned about myself today were a blessing, worth every penny spent and every ache I’ve felt over the last 12 months.

And this is why I invest in time spent away from the daily grind, in soul and body, in adventure — in SELF.

Alaska is a jaw-dropping wonderland. And I am so proud of me today, and so happy I have rewarded myself in this way.

I will be out of the office Friday, September 13th - Tuesday, September 24th
