Mykonos!

In the coming weeks, Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort will begin piloting a new service providing expedited entry to theme park attractions: Lightning Lane Premier Pass.

Lightning Lane Premier Pass will be offered in very limited quantities and will give guests one-time entry to each available Lightning Lane entrance in the theme park they are visiting that day. This includes attractions included in both Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass, but with Lightning Lane Premier Pass, guests do not need to select an experience time. Lightning Lane Premier Pass will be a premium offering, and prices will vary based on the date and theme park guests are visiting.

At Walt Disney World, when Lightning Lane Premier Pass launches, it will be available to guests staying at ⭐️Disney Deluxe or ⭐️Deluxe Villa Resorts and may be purchased up to seven days in advance of their stay. ⭐️It will only be valid for use in one park of the guest’s choice per day. The first date it will be available is ⭐️October 30, 2024.

At Disneyland Resort, the Lightning Lane Premier Pass will be available first come, first served beginning two days in advance of a theme park reservation and will be valid for use in both theme parks. The first date it will be available is ⭐️October 23, 2024.

Sardegna! (Sardinia) — long post!

Our friends at raro put together an incredible day for us on Sardinia, the 2nd largest island in the Mediterranean (after Sicily).

We started our day touring the Roman ruins at Nora. We saw the fantastic mosaics, a theatre, baths & a temple on the sea front — all destroyed & in ruins. We learned that they were abandoned as the Sardinians fled to the mountains.

We stopped briefly at one of the many gorgeous beaches on the island — just to dip our toes in the Mediterranean Sea. (The water was kinda chilly this late in the year!) The dazzling color of the water just cannot be captured.

And then lunch! The restaurant was open only for us! We feasted on typical Sardinian cuisine of locally produced cheeses & cured meats, Sardinian pastas (omg, the ravioli in a basil walnut “pesto” was fantastic!), followed by a whole spit-roasted suckling pig. All of this accompanied by their own wine — you know it’s authentic & amazing when they serve it in a pitcher! We also enjoyed a couple of renowned wines from the island, along with a locally produced “digestive” spirit — Mirto (from a variation of Myrtle).
And the owner treated us to a mini concert — he was amazing as he serenaded us with Volare!
raro is a foodie’s dream!

After lunch, we only had time for a brief tour of Cagliari before our day ended.

While I had visited the island once before, thanks to raro I have a better understanding of the island. Paola (our guide) explained that Sardinia has only been part of Italy since WWII — they’ve been occupied by many foreign rulers, but never conquered. I would love to explore this island on a deeper level.

For those that may not know, raro offers land-based tours to Sardinia & Umbria in Italy, Greece, & the Philippines. raro = rare, in other words real, immersive & not your typical tourist jaunt.

Cannes, Nice & the medieval village of Eze

Clinging to the side of mountains some 1,400 ft above the Mediterranean Sea, Eze is often referred to as “the eagle’s nest”. The views are incredible! Perched at the very top — La Chèvre d’Or (or the Golden Goat). We enjoyed a magnificent lunch on the terrace overlooking the sea.

After lunch onto a couple of wineries in Nice to taste the renowned wines of Provence.

One interesting side note: Chateau de Cremat, one of the wineries we visited, has stained glass windows that date back to the turn of the century (1900). These windows feature interlocking Cs. Coco Chanel visited in 1923 & decided that would be her logo. Today, the winery is forbidden to use their very own original logo under threat of legal action from Chanel. 😳 (I have nothing good to say about Coco Chanel in the first place, but this furthers my dislike.)

Cannes (along with Nice & Villefranche) are common cruise ports on the French Riviera. It’s a feast for senses.

Our day in Barcelona was just amazing! We toured Montserrat Abbey & Basilica in the morning — breathtaking & moving.

Then we headed to a beautiful winery in the hills above Barcelona for lunch & wine pairings.

Our guide, David, couldn’t have been more perfect for our day — a Jesuit, a farmer who grows grapes & he is finishing his doctorate in WINE!

Don’t overlook the adventures to be had in your port cities, before or after your cruise.
