We began our day with critically acclaimed childrenโs book author and artist ๐จ, Rosa Chang, who read aloud her award-winning ๐ picture book My Indigo World. She taught us about the Korean tradition of harvesting indigo plants ๐, called jjok(์ชฝ) in Korean, to make a natural dye. All the children received a signed copy of My Indigo World, through the generous donation of KOWIN. After picking indigo leaves ๐ from the KCCNY Indigo Garden, we learned the leaf pounding technique ๐จ to create colorful imprints onto our fabric ๐ฉโ๐จ. Everyone got to tie-dye their own bandana, and learn about the ๐งช chemical process of the indigo dye mixing with oxygen in the air to turn a deep blue color.
