Well, I did it. And felt amazing. Finished the Unbound Gravel 200 mile bike race in just over 15 hours. Unbound had everything - wind, rain, mud, sun + heat. Smooth gravel roads and technical climbs/descents. River crossings. Did I say mud? My nutrition plan worked out and I found that I had the energy to complete all 200 miles with relative ease. Unfortunately, I had a mechanical issue that took an hour to resolve but lesson learned. I can’t wait for the next adventure!

Braved the heat and rode out to Yankee Jim’s Bridge. What a find! Nice long gravel descent winding through the Sierra. I need to remember this spot to take a dip in the river next time. The climb out is long and sustained, but shaded and I only saw one motor vehicle. More info to come on food producers in the area.

I highly recommend checking out the The ride was epic (and hard), the race was extremely well organized, the scenery was beautiful, and the field top knotch. What more could you ask for? It feels good to be training for races again. I’ve got a number of them scheduled for this year, with coming up in just a few weeks. My first time racing so early in the year means I’m taking full advantage of these early sunsets.
