WE ALL KNOW THIS BUT.....
Documenting vacation through photos and videos to share on social media is common, however there may be some risks when sharing trip details online. Since October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we wanted to share some tips for your clients to be aware of for future vacations.
• Avoid sharing any photos or videos of travel documents such as boarding passes, passports, itineraries displaying confirmation numbers since cybercriminals could potentially access personal information including your client’s full name, address, phone numbers, frequent flyer/travel rewards account numbers and more.
• Avoid posting about upcoming travel dates or real-time location sharing on social media as this may inform thieves that their home is vacant.
• Consider privately share trip details with ‘close friends’ only on social media or wait to share when back home.
• Ask loved ones or any travel companions to avoid posting about trip details as well.

Remind your clients to back up and set up ‘Find My’ services on any digital devices they plan to carry on before taking off—if any of their devices are lost or stolen during the trip, the damage will be kept to a minimum. Offer a Travel Guard insurance plan with 24/7 assistance services that can help with any lost or stolen electronic devices, flight and hotel rebooking, lost baggage tracking, passport replacement and more.

Governor Green Reaffirms Travel Outside West Maui, Other Hawaiian Islands Is Safe
In addressing a community concern about ensuring the economic well-being of Maui and the state, Governor Josh Green emphasized the importance of travel during today’s news conference.
“Like we saw in the pandemic, decisions we made can affect everyone across the islands. So what we’re saying now is travel should not be to West Maui. But the other parts of Maui are safe,” said Governor Green. “And the rest of the state, of course, is also safe.”
“I'll be making a much broader announcement and have a broader discussion about this on Friday in a statewide address. But we want people to travel to the state to the extent that they're not impacting the hard work that these extraordinary people are doing (supporting disaster recovery),” the Governor said.
In alignment with Governor Green, the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority urges visitors to refrain from going to West Maui (including Lāhainā, Nāpili, Kāʻanapali, and Kapalua) as a means of respect to the people and places that have been lost in Lāhainā during this devastating tragedy.
The August 13 emergency proclamation remains in place, with all nonessential travel to West Maui being strongly discouraged through the month of August.
The impacted area of Lāhainā remains off limits to the public as the search and recovery efforts continue.
We encourage travelers to consider visiting other areas of Maui (including Kahului, Wailuku, Kīhei, Wailea, Mākena, Pāʻia and Hāna), or other islands such as Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Lānaʻi, Molokaʻi and Hawaiʻi Island.

Maui and Hawai‘i Island Wildfire Update

Aloha,

As you have probably heard, devastating wildfires are affecting areas on Maui and Hawai‘i Island’s Kohala Coast. These fires are resulting in road closures and evacuations affecting thousands of residents and visitors. The update below includes additional details, and highlights the following three key points:

• Visitors who are on non-essential travel are being asked to leave Maui, and non-essential travel to Maui is strongly discouraged at this time. Visitors who have travel plans to West Maui in the coming weeks are encouraged to consider rescheduling their travel plans for a later time.

• Travel to the rest of the Hawaiian Islands (Kaua‘i, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, and other parts of Hawaiʻi Island) is currently unaffected.

• While Kahului Airport on Maui remains open at this time, residents and visitors with travel bookings are encouraged to check with their airline for any flight changes or cancellations, or for assistance with rebooking.
