Kavvayi Kayal is among the most fascinating backwater destinations in Kerala. This lesser known destination is the result of the five rivers viz. Most locations in Munnar are generally known for their slopes, rare fauna and a wonderful view of the valley. Vattavada, however, is known for its vegetables. These terraced slopes and valleys, located 45 km to the east of Munnar, contain some of the finest crops and produce in all of Kerala.

Situated 6500 ft. above sea level, people visit this exceptional destination in large numbers. It is known for its equable climate and is blessed with abundant sunlight throughout the year. |The place takes the name from the legendary Pandavas, as described in the great Indian epic 'Mahabharata'. Pandavan Para or the Rock of the Pandavas, located at Urukunnu, near Thenmala in Kollam District is an ideal picnic spot. At the base of the great hill where one finds this pristine location, lies a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Here one can feast one’s eyes on different angles of Thenmala including the adjoining hills, forests, the Kallada Dam and the lake behind it and the railway line that passes by the mountain bases and over arched stone bridges. At the summit, be prepared for a rocky outcrop, with two pedestal rocks on the northern side and a temple towards the south. Crisp and chilly winds greet you, while our sight is guided to the eastern flank, where our ancient heroes are said to have taken refuge.

Anjengo Fort is forever remembered in the pantheons of history as the location of the first trade settlement of the East India Company in Kerala. Legend has it that the English were given this site by the Queen of Attingal for trade purposes. Gavi Eco-Tourism , a project of the Kerala Forest Development Corporation, has caught the attention of tourists for a while now. The project is exclusive in many respects and the majority who visited were nature lovers and adventure tourists. Over a short period of time visitors to Gavi gradually increased, especially after 'Alistair International' the world-acclaimed tourism major listed it among the leading eco-tourism centres and one of the must-see places in India.

A highlight of the Gavi Eco Project is the involvement of the local populace in its activities as guides, gardeners and cooks. This provides livelihood for the locals and also helps to create awareness on the conservation of nature. Kumbalangi Integrated Tourism Village Project is a unique initiative to transform the tiny island of Kumbalangi into a model fishing village and tourism spot. It is the first of its kind in India and is located in Kochi. It is blessed with many natural wonders and the people who visits are treated to many a rare treat.

Tea has played an integral part in the history of Munnar. The plantations played a huge role in attracting people to the area. Tata Tea established a Tea Museum in 2005 which has photographs and machineries, which chronicle the journey of tea in the area. The museum set up at the Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea ensures that the legacy of those who worked hard to ensure the tea plantations survived this long is recognised publicly.

One can observe the history and growth of tea estates in the area. We get to watch the transition from the rudimentary tea roller to the modern fully automated tea factory. Various stages of tea processing can be seen, which includes the making of black tea. One can also see a sundial, placed on a granite block, which was made in 1913 by the Art Industrial School at Nazareth, Tamil Nadu. It has other attractions like the 'Pelton Wheel' used in the power generation plant in the 1920s, tea roller and a rail engine wheel of the Kundale Valley Light Railway.
