This connection brings about a deep, meditative experience, fully immersing me in the present moment on canvas. As I begin a piece I will often listen to music. Sometimes it is the music itself that brings about an image. Although I may see the completed piece in my mind, I let the music open the door to my divine guidance. I arrange my palette with the colors I want to express in a particular pai
nting and then place brush to canvas and begin. It is not uncommon for the painting to take a new direction as I move around the canvas. During the painting process I seek to balance the composition through small strokes of color, anchor the painting through darker colors, and add the final brightness in the painting through whiter highlights. Throughout the process, I use various techniques either with a brush or palette knife in order to give the work depth. In the end, the colors must convey a sense of motion in order to accomplish my overall desire to bring the painting to life. When people connect with my work, they are intrigued by the colors, the motion, and the element of surprise, delight, discord, or harmony. After many years, my art and my spiritual beliefs have come together resulting in a new focus and style of paintings, whether abstract or realism.
