Looking for collaborators

I am starting to plan Apeiron style trips as My plan is to have a few collaborative trips this coming Summer and Fall. I’m convinced that the fun and welcoming nature of packrafts will mesh well with the creative activities that make an Apeiron trip so rewarding.

With the it was easy to carry 2 packrafts. The trailer comes apart and can easily be loaded into a large drybag. I met up with a friend on her bike for a fun paddle on Kenduskeag Stream through downtown Bangor and across the Penobscot to Brewer. Looking forward to some car-less guiding this summer.

Some big changes to come this summer. I still need to get through some paperwork before I can share all of it, but here is a preview and some of the reasons for the change.

Recently I have become interested in the idea of minimizing the environmental impacts of the trips I lead. First, I wanted to reduce the amount of driving. Packrafting and bikerafting are the perfect tool to still access remote and inspiring places with out the need for lengthy car rides and long multiple vehicle shuttles of the common paddling trip, so here we are. Check out to learn more about it.

In addition with the help of Beth Jackson of Lichen Bags, I will be able to significantly reduce the amount of single-use plastics on my trips.

Packraft Maine with me

The plan is a simple, we will use packrafts to get out and explore. If you are an experienced packrafter, bring your boat and I will share some of my favorite spots with you. If you are new to packrafting, don’t worry I have boats for you to use and will show you what you need to know. In addition to packrafting and hiking I will be designing bikerafting trips for experienced bikers. I think I can convince you that the combination of bikes and packrafts, is a perfect way to explore Maine.

Apeiron Expeditions is not disappearing, I am working on some packrafting based collaboration with artists, authors, and doers. Hopefully we will have some day trips planned for early Fall 2022, and some longer trips Summer of 2023.

I have spent more time this summer in packrafts than canoes. Don’t worry I have figured out how to do it with a single bladed paddle mostly. Pics are from various mini adventures over the summer. Today was a great example of the draw of packrafting, I loaded everything onto my bike, after a short ride to the put in it was a quick set up and then onto the water. For a nice paddle, and then a bike home. I have been eyeing some longer bike-rafting routes for the spring and next summer…

For a long time canoes have been my favorite way to explore the outdoors. There is something special about a canoe paddle stroke and the steady glide of a canoe, and with portages, poling, and lining canoes open up so many parts of Maine. On the other hand short canoe trips involve more miles of driving than paddling, often with multiple cars. Recently i have started to experiment with packrafts and bikerafting as a way to reduce the amount of car travel. I am not ready to offer trips yet this summer, but am having fun experimenting. If you want to try I have a second boat, and plenty of straps.
