In 1066, after William the Conqueror invaded England, a fascinating linguistic transformation began. For nearly 300 years, English nobility spoke French while commoners spoke Old English. If you traveled back in time to 1100 AD England, you likely wouldn't understand a word - the language would sound more like German than modern English.

The mixing of French and Old English eventually created Middle English around 1400. Even that would be barely recognizable today. It wasn't until the late 1500s that Early Modern English emerged - what Shakespeare wrote in. While you might struggle with some words, you'd finally be able to understand most conversations.

This gradual evolution from Old English to what we speak today shows how languages naturally blend and change over time. The Norman invasion's lasting impact on English vocabulary is why we often have two words for the same thing - one from Old English (pig) and one from French (pork).

Mada'in Saleh, Saudi Arabia.

Mada'in Saleh, also called al-Higr (rocky place) is an archaeological site located in the north of Saudi Arabia. In ancient times the city, known as Hegra, was inhabited by the Nabataeans.

Although Hegra was a remote outpost on the southern fringes of the Nabataean territory, traces of their civilization remained in this place. Remarkable are the monumental tombs carved from top to bottom, starting from a single block of sandstone. These structures are well preserved and date back to 100 BC and 100 AD.

Qasr al-Farid, the "Lonely Castle", is the most spectacular tomb. It is a colossal structure never completed, built in the first century BC. This monument still preserves the effigies and religious symbols carved about 2000 years ago.

Piazza dell'Anfiteatro in Lucca, Italy was created from the ruins of a Roman amphitheater built in the second century, which could accommodate approximately 10,000 people. The current oval shape of the square mirrors the outline of the original amphitheater.

When you dive past 200 meters (656 feet), you enter the deep seabed—an expansive world leading down to abyssal plains, at depths of 3,000 to 6,000 meters (up to 19,685 feet). But it doesn't stop there; the Mariana Trench drops to a staggering 11,000 meters (36,089 feet).

The Great Pyramid of Cheops harbors a mystery that often goes unspoken among historians and archaeologists. It is universally acknowledged that the pyramid comprises approximately 2,400,000 rock blocks, each weighing between 2 and 70 tonnes (4,400 to 154,000 pounds). These blocks were placed with extraordinary precision, with a margin of error of only 1 centimeter (0.39 inches) at the base and an alignment deviation of merely 1 degree to the north—a level of accuracy achievable today only with laser-guided technology.

However, the astounding precision of the pyramid's construction is not the central mystery. Nor is the focus on the methods of transporting these massive blocks. The critical question is: how long did it take to build the pyramid?

If Egyptian workers managed to cut, transport, and place one block each day, it would have taken 6,575 years to complete the Great Pyramid (2,400,000 blocks divided by 365 days per year). This timeline suggests that construction would have started around 9,000 B.C., far earlier than the commonly accepted date of around 2,500 B.C., when the pyramid is said to have been completed in just 10 years.

To finish the pyramid in a decade, workers would have needed to cut, transport, and place one block every minute during 10-hour workdays. This implies an unimaginable efficiency: 1 block every 60 seconds, continuously for 10 years. Considering the tools of the time, primarily soft copper and the absence of the wheel, this scenario seems implausible.

While it is clear that the Great Pyramid was built by the people who lived in the area, the timeline and perhaps even the identities of the builders remain shrouded in mystery. This enigma challenges our understanding of ancient construction capabilities and timelines.

This door is one of the oldest in the world located in the Pantheon of Rome, it was built in the year 118-126 AD, during the time of Emperor Adriano. The door consists of two wings, each of solid bronze, weighs 8.5 tons, measures 7.6 meters high and 2.3 meters wide. Although the wings are extremely heavy, they are so balanced that a single person can easily open and close them. It is also one of the few doors in the world whose lock, dating back nearly 2000 years, still works.
