SAVE the DATES!

Steep Endurance is excited to announce two NEW events! Both of these races will be set in the iconic Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden, CT. One of the most popular hiking and trail running spots in the state, Sleeping Giant presents a beautiful backdrop and a variety of trails including runnable carriage roads, technical singletrack and rock scrambles. Registration for both events will open on August 1!

TOWER TAG CHALLENGE >>> December 7, 2024
At the top of the Sleeping Giant is the observation tower, a stone structure with amazing views of the surrounding landscape. Runners will make their way up the wide crushed gravel Tower Path Trail, a 1.5 mile climb with 600’+ of elevation, tag the tower, and head back down. The goal is to complete as many roundtrip “Tower Tags” in either the 8 Hour or 4 Hour races.

SLEEPING GIANT TRAIL RUNS >>> March 30, 2025
Sleeping Giant is known for its tough singletrack trails, rocky terrain and great views. This race will give runners a chance to experience all of these in the park. The will be a beast of a course with the 25K loop yielding 3K+ of vert! If you’re really badass, signup for the 50K for twice the elevation and suffering!

Last Saturday, we hosted our 3rd edition of the Norbrook Farm Brewery Trail Festival for both mountain bikers and trail runners with close to 300 participants. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect and everyone was crushing it on both courses! has an amazing venue, a reputation for well maintained challenging trails and even better beers! Hey Steep Endurance community! We are in need of more VOLUNTEERS on race day next Saturday, June 15 at the Norbrook Farm Brewery Trail Festival in Colebrook, CT. It's one of our biggest events of the season with trail runs/mountain bike events throughout the day. The best part about Norbrook is that it's at a brewery! FREE beer ticket to all volunteers and we'll even buy you lunch and/or dinner at the food truck on site that day. ALL volunteers also earn race credits to a future Steep Endurance event. Over the Memorial Day weekend on May 26, we hosted the Mine Hill Half Marathon/Gravel Challenge. The Half Marathon is considered the toughest road half marathon in Connecticut and the Gravel Challenge is held on the same course, but in 26M or 39M options. It was a fairly warm day in the hills of Roxbury and Washington, but no rain and sunny skies! Steep Endurance community! This Sunday, May 26 is the Mine Hill Half Marathon and Mine Hill Gravel Challenge with the start/finish at the Mine Hill Distillery in Roxbury, CT. We are in great need of more volunteers for the event. Without volunteers, we wouldn't be able to put on these races and keep runners/riders safe and hydrated out on course.

The race is only in the morning. If any of you can possibly help out even if for a few hours, please click on the link below to signup. Volunteers earn race credits towards future Steep Endurance events as well as a race shirt and other swag from our sponsors.

Last weekend we held our “women’s only” event, the Lake Mohegan Trail Race in Fairfield, CT. It was a near perfect day on the trails and plenty of smiles, nearly 125 of them! Thank you again to all the runners, volunteers, and sponsors!

We've got the same awesome, challenging races for you again this year with one exception. We are pausing the backyard ultra for 2024 while we look for a new venue. While you were sleeping each of the last FOUR nights, the Backyard Ultra World Championship is going on in Tennessee. The race started on SATURDAY morning at 8:00 am with 75 runners and there are 8 remaining runners who have just reached 96 hours/400 miles! Each loop is 4.166 miles every hour. Simply amazing and mind boggling!
