Family ride at Hempstead Harbor Woods on Sunday July 10 at 10am and 12pm. There are only a few miles of easier trails here but we will guide you through the easier ones. If you’re a town of north Hempstead resident please call 311 to pre register. Thanks. Helmet and eye protection is required. Mountain biking is an inherently risky activity. Use the trails at your own risk.

Very Important!
Please participate and Share. Thank you!
ADVOCACY ALERT! Please share this. The Town of Riverhead and Suffolk County are re-doing Edwards Ave but the plans currently do not accomodate bicycles. Can you help us by emailing these comments to: [email protected] until/including 2/19/21.
- Why aren't bike lanes included in a $5M redo of the intersection?
-Suffolk County did a hike bike master plan recently to improve safety but this current plan is less safe.
- How about including bike boxes so cyclists will be more visible?
- A buffered bike lane would be better than what is currently planned.
- This is a NY bike route so it shouldn't be a shoulder, it should be bike lanes to remind motorists it's not a turning or breakdown lane.
- The lanes should direct cyclists across the intersection, not around the corner. Aside from making it look to cyclists like they can't go straight it also gives the impression to motorists that they can just swing right with no regard for any cyclists
- There should be signs alerting right turning motorists they need to yield to cyclists.
- These 'improvements' will certainly increase speeds making it less safe for cyclists and pedestrians. Reducing NY25 lane widths to 11' would help negate the increased speeds that normally result from projects like this.
- No north/south crosswalk? We need to accomodate walkers in a safe manner.
- Bike boxes allow cyclists to position themselves out in front of motorists for better visibility and would be a good idea. They are widely used elsewhere and very helpful.
- Add your addional comments here.

Finally!
PTNY is fighting to increase the reach of the state’s visionary Empire State Trail by extending it to include new corridors, such as the Long Island Greenway, Genesee Valley Greenway, and Niagara Shoreline Trail, and improve connections between the existing trail and nearby communities.

Pay Attention!
To be safe and have suitable maneuvering room, we recommend riding on the right hand side of the road with three feet of clear space on each side. Ride three feet out from the curb and parked cars and in such a way that you make passing motorists pass you at a safe distance.

Nice ride today out in Calverton!

Very Important!
One of the foundational elements of safe cycling is being conspicuous. Never let a driver say, “Officer, I just didn’t see them!” Lights, reflectors, bright clothing & riding where you are most visible are very important at night.
