Debby's Departures Sharing travel experiences through writing and photography. Sweet Travels!

Author and photographer of five "windows and doors" travel photo books, I love to travel, take pictures, and write. To date, I have been to over 35 countries, have walked, trekked, hiked, or backpacked well over 1,000 miles, and have been writing blogs for over 8 years.

After writing 302 (!) travel blogs since 2007 (!), I have contemplated, and ultimately decided to "retire" from writing any more blogs, and thus not continuing to maintain my website, debbysdepartures.com. In a few days time, my website will no longer be visible on the internet. But it has been a great and fun twelve years of writing and sharing my travel adventures!!! I first started blogging under the name "Tea, Sugar, a Dream" on my friend's website, "Wanderlust and Lipstick." Thank you, Beth Whitman, for this experience! On her website, and under Beth's encouragement, I changed my blog name to Debby's Departures, and eventually learned to maintain my own website. I have all my blogs, along with thousands of photographs, archived in various formats, including four large binders of all my blogs printed. I will continue to travel, just not write about them in the format of blogs. Thank you to those of you who have read my blogs over the years. As I said at the end of each and every blog, "Sweet Travels!"

Here is link to a blog I wrote providing a brief description about my book, with links at the end of the blog to Amazon where the book is available in paperback and eBook versions. I would really love for you all to read it and perhaps be inspired! Thank you!

I discovered something completely delicious while walking the South West Coast Path - Cream Tea!

I discovered something completely delicious during my walk on the 630-mile South West Coast Path in England last summer. Cream Tea. No, it is not tea with cream in it. Instead it is tea with a delicious combination of scones, jam, and clotted cream.

I've been working on writing a book that I am going to publish eventually about my three-month walk on the 630-mile South West Coast Path. In the meantime, here is a blog about my ninth day of walking, and how I managed to turn a 6.5 mile walk into a 12 mile walk.

A beautiful day for what was supposed to be a 6.5 mile walk on the South West Coast Path, but ended up being 12 miles!

Hello, Debby's Departures fans. I haven't written a blog in quite a while because I was planning, and then walking on a three-month adventure. The 630-mile South West Coast Path in the south west of England. While I will be writing a book about my adventure, here is a blog about the start of my walk, the first day, which for a moment, I thought might be my last day.

At exactly 3:00 pm on Sunday the 4th of June, 2017, England time, I started my 630-mile walk along the South West Coast Path.

A Bucket List item completed: 28 Lighthouses in Washington State! WoooHooo!!

I have completed a Bucket List item of visiting or seeing a vast majority of the lighthouses in Washington State, 28 of them!

Not only do I have a love of lighthouses, but I am also very intrigued by the women who cared for the lights back in the days before they became automated. I've read inspiring books, and saw a thought-provoking independent film about a female lighthouse keeper, "To Keep The Light." I feel that these women were brave, strong, and courageous pioneers, who had a lot of heart and spirit.

I am intrigued by these women, female lighthouse keepers, amazed and awestruck by their strength, courage, sacrifices, successes, and desires.

Ever heard of a "floating lighthouse?" Of the 179 built in the past, only about 15 remain. One of these happens to be in Seattle, so being the lighthouse fan that I am, I made a visit. This blog is about floating lighthouses in general, as well as the Lightship Swiftsure in Seattle.

I feel fortunate that my husband and I live so close to an historic and important piece of history, the floating lighthouse.

Today's Ediz Hook Lighthouse looks like a normal house if you did not know it used to be a dwelling for a lighthouse.

Three books that inspired me to walk the South West Coast Path. Especially the adorably illustrated book, "A Brush with the Coast" by Sasha Harding, a woman who walked the entire 630-miles mostly solo (and with her dog).

Three inspiring books about walking the entire 630-mile South West Coast Path, two by men, and the most inspirational written, and illustrated, by a woman.

Of course I had to take pictures of windows and doors along the South West Coast Path walk! Turns out many of them had a nautical theme.

Navigation along the South West Coast Path includes following acorn and arrow symbols. It reminded me of following arrows and scallop shells on the Camino de Santiago in Spain. And what was fun was that a few miles of the SWCP that my husband and I walked on was even part of a Camino route that was in England!

Follow the directional acorns and arrows of the South West Coast Path to navigate your way.
