We had a lovely day yesterday, exploring Castlepoint and checking out Mataikona and where we would have cycled the day before had we not been flooded out. Dinner at the Martinborough Hotel finished our day off nicely.
Wait and see what today will bring......

What an adventure we've been having here in the Waiarapa region. I've never had an adventure quite like this one! From washed out roads on the way to Cape Palliser, to facial masks and massages, to flooded fords and rescue parties......we' ve had it all, and we've still got 2 days to go!
Everyone is doing really well though, apart from one sprained hand from a fall from a bike.....

Another day, Another adventure.... I love my life! 10 of us are heading off this morning for 5 days to cycle the Rahui Coastal Loop near Masterton and the Remutaka Rail Trail plus some wining and dining in Martinborough. Watch this space!!

We spent the final morning of our adventure exploring just a little bit of Gisborne - thanks to Katrina from Gisborne Cycles who took us for a specialised tour instead of us cycling in the rain. Thanks Katrina - we all loved the shops, cafes, beaches, historic homesteads and local history that you shared with us!

Our walk/climb today was to the top of a huge hill where there was an old pa site. What a view from the top. Then it was goodbye to Haurata and hello to Gisborne. Our last day, tomorrow, will be a bit of cycling before flying home in the afternoon.

It's the end of another incredible day of walking over the amazing Haurata High Country Station. We've climbed up long, grassy slopes, down steep hills, up a 6 metre telegraph type pole, along ridges, through boggy fields, over stiles..... and everywhere you look are jaw dropping high country views!

Day 2 of the West Coast Wilderness Cycle Trail. It was a pretty wet looking day for the group of 9 women braving the elements on this cycle trail! They started out with a walk around the Hokitika Gorge loop track which looked vastly different to the quiet gentle blue green waters when I saw it last at the beginning of this year. From there they were dropped off at Dorothy Falls and cycled back to Hokitika and again, it looked pretty wet! Dinner last night at The Kitchen looked absolutely well deserved. Go ladies! I'm thinking of you all - and Go Ruth Donde, your first adventure as the leader!!

So, Day One on the West Coast Cycle Trail wasn't as bad weatherwise as they expected. A long day though, with the early morning start, cycling 30 odd k's, a side trip to the Treetops Walkway, a boat cruise along the Scenic Waterways, dinner and a well deserved early night!

Early, very early, this morning, 9 adventurous women, including Ruth, their leader for this trip, set off to do the 4 day West Coast Cycle Trail. The weather is not looking that great at all for today but it will be improving, over the next few days, thank goodness. Watch this space for photos! Here they are at the Christchurch airport, waiting for their flight to Hokitika.
