There is a little cafe in Angouleme, France, and a friend told me this story about suspended coffee purchasing.
“I went with a friend towards the counter, to place our order. As we were approaching the counter, two people in front of us ordered: - "Five coffees please. Two for us and three suspended.”
They paid, took their two coffees and left." I asked my friend: - "What is a suspended coffee?" "My friend answered me: - ""Wait and you'll see. Let’s stand back and watch for a few minutes “.
A few more people went in. Two girls asked for a coffee. Each paid and left.
The next order was seven coffees and it was placed by three people - the order was three for them and four "suspended". While I'm still wondering what the meaning of the 'suspended coffees' is, they go.
Suddenly, a man dressed in worn-out clothes who resembles a beggar comes to the counter and politely asks: - "Do you have a suspended coffee ?"
And the waiter serves him a free coffee.
People pay in advance for a coffee that will be served to someone who can't afford one.
This tradition began in Naples, but has spread; and in some places, you can order not only "suspended coffees" but also a suspended sandwich or a full meal.
Please suggest this idea with your local coffee shop! That would be great!!!
