Sussex Urban Krav Maga This is the SUKM general page. Our aim is to equip students as soon as possible to defend themselves against the most common street attacks they may face.

The founders of Urban Krav Maga can draw on many years of experience in the following fighting systems as well as various styles of Krav Maga: Karate; Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Traditional Jiu Jitsu, Aikido, Boxing, Muay Thai, Tae Kwan Do and MMA. The core syllabus is based around the disciplines and techniques needed to defend the 10 most common street attacks. It also contains a range of techniques a

pplicable to female self-defence, grappling (stand-up and on the ground), fighting/sparring techniques and weapons defences. Our aim is to equip the student as soon as possible to defend themselves against the most common attacks. Once the student has mastered these techniques more difficult scenarios are addressed to build a support system that will enable the student to deal with almost any situation. By teaching concepts through techniques, students are taught how to read a situation and react/respond accordingly, even if they've not experienced the exact same thing in training. Giving students the ability to improvise is an important element of our training. Awareness, avoidance and pre-emption are placed high in order of priority - but we recognise that you can't always avoid or run away from problems so we teach everything that is needed for
self defence when it's necessary in all environments, including highly confined, crowded spaces. Urban Krav Maga is not affiliated to, nor makes any claims that our techniques are used by, any military organisation. The system is designed for civilian self protection and addresses the scenarios you may face in modern city life. We're happy for them to be judged on their merits, not assumed to be good because their supposedly taught to a regular army or Special Forces Unit. We make no apologies for this civilian approach: a knife defence based on somebody attacking like they were making a committed bayonet thrust will not be so effective as one that is based on somebody stabbing with an aggressive pumping motion with fast recoil. We retain the term Krav Maga as our approach reflects that on which Krav Maga was originally founded and we are of course indebted to the experiences we have gained training with the various Israeli Fighting Systems.

Hi everyone.

Due to personal reasons, my circumstances have changed so it’s with great regret I inform you that I will no longer be holding Urban Krav Maga group classes on Wednesdays in Tunbridge Wells anymore with immediate effect.

I will be continuing to teach private classes so do get in touch if you would like a lesson. These classes will be held in Heathfield.

I am hoping to start a new group class possibly next year so please keep an eye on the website and fb page for further details of when that happens.

Thank you for all your blood, sweat and tears over the last few years. I hope you all understand.

If you have any questions please private message or email me.

From one of our students - glad to know that the training is sinking in!

"Urban Krav Maga Techniques applied to non fighting situations:

We are currently experiencing the 'Beast from the East' snow storm and with it a lot of snow and ice!

Yesterday I was walking on a very icy pavement, and even though I was very careful I ended up slipping. Slipping probably does not give the fall enough justice, I fell backwards with both legs pointing up into the air infront of me.

As a student of Urban Krav Maga we are taught to ‘break fall’ & I found my self instinctively break falling, in-fact I didn't even realise I did until I was on the floor!

Even with the break fall, the sheer force meant the back of my head slightly tapped the concrete.

Without the break fall at best I would have ended up in hospital or at worst killed.

Naturally a bit shaken, I managed to get up immediately and carry on my walk without any further issue."
