Emotional day in Cassino!
Alan from NZ has many pictures taken by his dad, Harold Duckettamong, one of a temporary gave of two friends Max and Clarrie. I found out the graves at the Cassino War Cemetery.
Max was Maxwell Keith Hart who died on 4th April 1944 at the age of 22.
Clarrie is Clarence Reeves who was 25 years old and was killed in action while trying to help is wounded friend! For his action and heroism he was awarded the Military Medal. It is well recorded in three NZ archive and Alan learned about it yesterday after my research.
May their memory be always a blessing!

7 people, 3 nationalities: British, Dutch and Americans from Louisiana. The day was very emotional as we were following the route of the Royal West Kent in the last battle of Cassino. The Bowers family from UK asked to visit the battlefields of their father who on 13th May 1944 after the crossing on the Amazon bridge took Casa Petrarcone. The house is still there with scars from the war. It was an emotional day. From the 13th May to 20th May for less than 3 kms from the Amazon bridge to point 76 final stand of the battle only the 1st Bn lost not less than 4 Officers and 46 other ranks killed. With further 9 officers and 162 other ranks wounded. The battle for Monte Cassino must surely rank among the fierstest and close-fought actions of the Second World War!

A story of the Anzio beach head!
Walking on the footsteps of Pvt. Vincent Oeschger who was KIA during the final breakout from Anzio beach head on 27 May 1944. I was able to find the war diary of the 157th Regiment if the 45th Infantry Division. Company C on the 27th May 1944 was aggregated to the 3rd Bnnto attack a hill in the area of Presciano near Aprilia aka the factory when they were attacked from 12 German tanks.
Jack, his grand nephew, Major in the US Army, contacted me and I was able to retrace his route from the CP of his Bn to the hill where he was kIA. Humbling experience!

Our WW2 tour continues at the American cemetery in Nettuno to visit the grave of Pat’s great Auntie. When she described how her Auntie died I seen understood that her relative was 2nd Lt Ellen Ainsworth who was awarded the Silver Medal. She was a nurse who died in February 1944 when the Germans bombed the 56th Evac Hospital and she continued to take care of the wounded soldiers sacrificing her life.
She died 6 days after the bombing of her injuries on 16th February 1944.
Her story was a great inspiration!
