I've found that the surest way to a life of peace and contentment is to be happy with what you have. This means I am happy when I'm visiting a new country and happy when I get to stay home. Loving and appreciating the city you're in is also an act of gratitude.

I would bet that many of the people visiting Washington, DC have explored more of its attractions than I have. Why?

Because they dedicate time to actually see what this city offers, while I rush past monuments and museums in pursuit of work, home, or another activity.

This nonchalance is about to change.

Impulse buys and credit-funded trips are no longer an option in my more responsible adult life, so I'm not traveling as much as I used to. Touristing at home is an easy fix that keeps the travel monster away.

I challenge you to become a with me. Here's why:

For some reason, humiliation is less traumatizing while on vacation.

My guess is that once we’re home, embarrassing travel moments become great memories. Or maybe, we're comforted by the thought that locals are more forgiving to tourists and their innocent mistakes.

My awkward travel moment took place in an establishment that I thought would provide a carefree day of relaxation. Instead, my relaxing massage quickly turned into a horrifying moment of embarrassment...
