BLOOD RECIPES FOR MOTHERS DAY
There are always a few recipes passing down from generation to generation in every family. The ones we grew up devouring at our grandmother’s, the ones we still count on savoring at our mother’s on every family event, and the ones we also cook at home for our own children on any given celebration.

It is mother’s day here today. To honour mine I’ll share one of her blood recipes. This one is my favorite one, the rich and yummy chocolate marquise cake that I know it’ll make it to my birthday table every year, come what may, with - now too many - candles, from the baking hand of my beautiful Mamma.

Gluten Free Marquise de Mamá
Whisk 4 eggs with 4 generous spoons of sugar. Melt 100gr butter (bain marie) with 150gr od dark chocolate. Bake it for 15min in a medium oven (do not overcook). Top with a generous layer of dulce de leche, another one of whipped cream and a thick layer of italian meringue.

Happy Mother’s day to ours and all the incredible mothers out there!

On the pictures: our beautiful collaborator with her mom, granny and great grand mother. My mom and myself in Iguazu, my son and me in Punta del Este, in Bariloche and skiing in Mendoza. And Majo’s mother with her granddauthers.

From a blank sheet to impressive pieces

Great artists turn the blank sheet into art. This passionate journey of immersion, setting aside one's own thoughts, emptying oneself, and perceiving everything that happens without our intervention, to make way for a new creation.

Artist Eduardo Basualdo likes to imagine the idea that the blank sheet opens. As if that frame of the sheet were a portal, into which you can enter with your eyes but also projecting your body.

His work is a dialogue with space in physical or material and poetic terms, organized from issues related to mental space and real three-dimensional physical space.

From a young age, he found refuge in drawing. Within a large family, drawing was like a place of intimacy, of singularity. His installations reflect the genealogy established between art and childhood games. Those games with his siblings, shelters, dark rooms, wooden boxes, containers, all that organization of the world, the symbolic and inner, projected into possible space, with the impulse to organize three-dimensional space, sensations, and internal thoughts.

This is Eduardo Basualdo’s work, an outstanding local artist, trained in Fine Arts at the National Institute of Visual Arts (UNA), his talent has led him to exhibit in renowned institutions around the world, such as the Palais de Tokyo in Paris and the Venice Biennale. His works are present in public and private collections worldwide, from the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington D.C. to the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires.

He is also exhibiting like many spectacular artists at Arte BA this week.

On our explorations of Volcán Galán, at over 5000 meters, we came across these elegant flamingos. The contrast between their grace and the arid landscape is a sight to behold.

From Barreal in San Juan province, in the comfort of our vehicle, we started by wading the Rio los Patos continued by forcing our low Subaru into the impossible hike of the Andes up to Las Hornillas and los Manantiales (where we enjoyed the great steaks made on our “disco”).
Colours were just an unexpected palette going from bright reds to a deep dark burgundy, contrasting with the black of the condors at flight. Here, the massiveness (and beauty) of the Andes is jaw-dropping and the mountains enclose you in a tight and profound hug.
It is impossible to get your mind around the fact: the Ejercito de los Andes from the hand of General San Martin, crossed these peaks over 200 hundred years ago in a heroic attempt to liberate our neighboring countries, achieving the definite expulsion of the Spanish from the region.
Our humble homage to commemorate General San Martin’s death celebrated today.
