Hancock Hill Club The Hancock Hill (trails!) Club promotes enjoyment of the Big Bend Region of Texas through adventure filled service in the great outdoors

The Hancock Hill Club promotes enjoyment of a healthy lifestyle in the outdoors of the Big Bend Country of Texas. Club members actively participate in the development, improvement and maintenance of nearly ten (10) miles of unpaved trail infrastructure located on Hancock Hill which dominates the nearly 500 acres adjacent to the central Alpine Campus property. In addition, club members and friends

participate in service projects to improve public lands in our nearby State and National parks, Big Bend Ranch State Park and Big Bend National Park such as the annual Rio Grande Clean Up in November and annually scheduled trails work days.

It pays to pick up!!! On Thursday March 14th at 12:00 noon you are invited to join the Hancock Hill Club picking up trash on the Sul Ross State University campus' beautiful (but trash-bespeckled) Hancock Hill. For the record, we don't love to do this. Picking up after other people's lost trash isn't really "our thing". In windy West Texas where we seem to just LOVE our plastic, bottles and cans (but not so much that we keep them safely and securely stowed) it is is the season of blown' around trash. If you can't make the Hill Club invitation, take a few minutes and pick up around your neighborhood. Or re-commit to using only reusable shopping bags. Or do something which makes you part of the solution. I've taken a few "before" photos of the areas where we'll focus. Meeting location is the East turnaround in Lobo Village. Bring a shade hat, water, comfortable shoes, and gloves.

Not liking the amount of litter and other trash/impact we're seeing on "the Hill". Someone even constructed a fire ring and they appear to be using it!?! "Keep it clean", folks! In spite of recent precipitation and cool weather, smoking or open flame of ANY variety is a tremendous risk to everyone, especially our friends and neighbors. It wasn't that long ago (2011) when over 300,000 acres burned in two separate wildfires started the same weekend. One of these fires was the "legendary" Rock House Fire. Houses burned, livestock and wildlife perished. Completely uncool.

Hike Hancock Hill and write in the notebook left at The Desk. Back in 1981, three students decided to haul a school desk up to the top of the hill above the campus of Sul Ross State University. The Desk is now the endpoint of a 20-minute hike up Hancock Hill where visitors can sign the notebook kept…

Hancock Hill Club (and Friends) are planning a trail work weekend in Big Bend Ranch State Park the weekend of January 31st. Please let me know if you might be able to make it. The camp site will be deep in the heart of the park, sandwiched between mind-boggling exposures of Cretaceous limestone and the more geologically recent (volcanic) Bofecillos formation. If you're new to this, you'll learn how to build and maintain "sustainable" (weather & wear resistant) trails. Good food & great times!
