Antarctica feels magical for so many reasons but one of the most magical aspects of this trip is the experience of seeing animals up close and them having no fear of humans as predators. Penguins cross your path, seals look up as you pass and then uninterested, go back to their naps, none of the creatures seem concerned with massive cameras pointed their way. There are strict guidelines about keeping distance from all the animals but they go far in maintaining an awe-inspiring environment where you can witness creatures living their daily lives amongst one another, in pristine natural environments✨💫

The hilarious Gentoo Penguins of the Antarctic Peninsula (and some of their baby chicks). These guys spend the day stealing rocks from one another for their nests and going to and from their colonies and the sea via penguin highways that they’ve developed to save energy. Truly incredible to watch. And since Antarctic laws are so strong in terms of the human approach to animals, they have zero fear of us which means they’ll walk right up without any qualms. It’s made this a magical place to experience with unworldly sights.

Truly like a painting, these Rainbow Mountains emerged from a melted glacier about 6 years ago; a bittersweet effect of climate change. The different colors are from various minerals in the earth & weathering over time. At an altitude of over 17K feet, getting to the top was a challenge against the cold and symptoms of altitude sickness.

Few places feel even more magical than usual on a stormy evening. UNESCO world heritage site, Matera, in Southern Italy, is well worth the trek. Full of sassis (cave homes) this little town is like a painting and perfect for 2-3 days of exploration with many evening strolls 🌙

Italy is now even more open to US citizens! You can now fly on any flight to Italy (vs only Covid safe flights) and will not need to self isolate. With less travelers this summer, it’s a good time to experience the sights without the usual crowds 🇮🇹🍷
