The words of the poet lyricist, Jim Morrison:
“This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I’ll never look into your eyes again”
Twenty-three years ago I accepted a job. At least that’s what I thought it was. I truly thought I would teach for two or three years until I found something that paid better. I was wrong. Really, really wrong. I fell hard for teaching. Not that I was very good at it, but I so enjoyed it. It was the kids. Turns out that my heart is bent towards my students. I got to teach some really awesome kids.
Five years in, I found myself with a Master’s degree in Instructional Leadership and a seat as an assistant principal. A year after that, I finished an Educational Specialist degree. Now it’s over. It’s the end of my era.
I’ve worked in eight different schools under six different principals and eight directors.
The past six years at LaFollette Elementary School have been the most challenging and the most rewarding. It’s been a blessing to be around a faculty and staff that strived to improve year-in and year-out. And they’ve done it. All of them. And our students will reap the benefit.
I’d be remiss to not say thank you to my right hand, Ashley Spade. She was a capable leader six years ago and has only improved each year. She’s ready to lead when she decides the time is right.
To my left hand, Jessica Housley, you became the best academic coach I could hope for. I know you’ll be a top notch administrator and wish you the best.
Becky, Angie, Becca, Alice- you all are the best at what you do.
(I know I’ll probably regret naming names, but it wouldn’t be my first mistake.)
To all of my students, never forget, Mr. Walden loves you, wants the best for you and I’d fight a bear for you.
God bless you all and don’t be a stranger.
Sincerely,
Bob Walden
