I’ve just learned that two of the roads we plan to use for TT West 2025 have recently closed due to landslides. If they are not repaired, we have alternate routes. This is now 4 years in a row that we have had to deal with landslides and washouts along our route. TT West is considering marketing the “TT West Dangerous Roads Alert System” to the Department of Transportation of each western state. For an annual fee, TT West will tell them of our intended route and the state can then immediately prepare for road construction! Alternatively, states can contribute a modest donation to the “We don’t want to see your TTs” fund and we will promise not to hold a TT West in their state that year, thus saving the state millions of $ in road repairs.

Fuel angst at TT West. It is not uncommon in the rural West to go 50-100 miles and not see a gas station. When TT West went to Banff a few years ago, I and the Suttons had a great plan to avoid long lines crossing the border south of Calgary via a scenic route along the east side of the Rockies to a little used crossing at Del Bonita and then immediately fuel with the much less expensive gas in the US. When we arrived at Del Bonita we found it was closed weekends!!! So we had to drive an unplanned extra 50 miles east to the next crossing and were on fumes when we finally gassed up in the US.
This year I was heading home from TT West in Oregon and I started looking for gas when my dash showed 150 miles to empty. Seeing no gas stations, at 70 miles to empty I diverted from the most direct route home to go to a town 20 miles away. After arriving, it was apparent that the town's only gas station had been closed for years. Locals then told me the nearest gas was another 20 miles away in Alturas CA. We arrived with the dash saying 30 miles to empty! As we left Alturas, a sign said "70 miles to next services"!!! Dodged a bullet.

Like Christmas, TT West takes forever to get here and then it is over in a flash. The only incident was a flat tire on Tuesday. Everyone had a great time and we can't wait for the 25'th anniversary edition in Colorado in 2025.
