The first boat to arrive at Port Louis Marina, after 13 days at sea, was Sy Jalemar, a Fountaine Pajot Elba 45, with captain Jaqueline Henshall, an impressive accomplishment after departing from the Cape Verde Islands.
Yesterday was the big day everybody was waiting for! The welcome ceremony for the Viking Explorers 2024 in its 7th edition was on Friday 9th of February at the beautiful location of True Blue Bay Resort.
It was indeed a very emotional one with many new friends having crossed together the Atlantic. At the Welcome Ceremony, Chinel Sandy, from the Grenada Tourism Authority, welcomed the sailors, thanking them all for having chosen this island as their destination. Zara Tremlett, Marina Manager for PLM also welcomed all sailors to beautiful Port Louis Marina.
Oliver Solanas Heinrichs, Managing Director of Viking Explorers and Carlota Texeira, PR and Marketing Director for Viking Explorers, thanked everyone for contributing to such a great and friendly group.
Every participant was invited on stage to receive all the gifts from Viking Explorers and sponsors.
At the fun price giving, SY Seaduction, was awarded for being the newest boat, a Fountine Pajot Saona 47 from 2021 and SY Yulunga, a Nautors Swan from year 1976 for being the oldest one. This year for the first time we had a motor yacht, MY L’Adagio B Blond IV, a Nordhavn 76, that was indeed the biggest boat so there was a special price for him. Then the price for the biggest sailboat went to SY Migaloo, a Nordhavn 56, from Canada, and for SY Lagertha as the smallest boat, an UFO 34. The youngest captain was Mathias from SY Rose Marie (1999) and the oldest captain Richard (1954), from SY Tiny Dancer. The very special price, the “Spirit of the Viking Explorers” went to Mattias Hedlund from SY Manami II, from Sweden , who built up a strong camaraderie with his fellow sailors, in the true ethos of this rally. Awaiting for the arrival of their fellow sailors with music and cheering up the atmosphere on the docks and arranging a nice and warm welcome to his friends that had just crossed safely the Atlantic.
A very emotional moment came at the end of the presentation, when the video of the Viking Explorers 2024, with all the memories since this fleet got together months ago, got shown on screen.
After that, a traditional Steel Pan Band performed while participants enjoyed the evening and the never ending cocktails.

Mount Cinnamon invited the participants of the Viking Explorers 2024 to a beach day on Savvy’s Beach Cabana at Grand Anse Beach.
Everyone enjoyed a nice relaxed day by the ocean, with great cocktails and good food. A well deserved rest after the big achievement of crossing an ocean.
For the last 2 weeks Mount Cinnamon Grenada has been the base for the Viking Explorers Team while the boats were crossing the Atlantic. Can’t image a better place to be.

Pure Grenada
The last boat of the Viking Explorers 2024 to arrive in beautiful Port Louis Marina was SY Coolbardie. They arrived the exactly same day Grenada celebrates the 50th anniversary of independence.
Coolbardie is a Beneteau Oceanis 46.1 from Australia sailed by the Cormack family. Captain Grant Cormack, his wife Bronwyn and their son Liam arrived at 16:15 pm and it took them 18 days from Cape Verde to the spice island of Grenada.
It’s amazing to have them here after such an achievement.

On Tuesday 6th of February, the Viking Explorers 2024 participants enjoyed the local market at Port Louis Marina. It was a cheerful atmosphere ahead of the nation’s independence celebrations and everyone got to mingle with local people and “lime” with their fellow sailors.
The new Windward Island Guide by Doyle Guide was delivered by author Lexi Fisher who personally bought them to Grenada. Port Louis Marina together with Jenny’s Farmers Market organized this fantastic morning, with rum tasting from Ron Beard Rum company, some local snacks and fresh produce.
Historically Grenada is well known as the spice of the Caribbean and after a few days participants realized that this island is filled with spices, fresh tropical fruit and organic local vegetables, many of these treasures are unknown to those visiting this beautiful island. Thank you to all involved for such a nice market!

Right after M/S Migaloo, S/Y Rose Marie, a Norwegian flagged Feeling 486 and the youngest crew of the fleet, with Captain Mathias and his young crew Asbjorn, Jonathan, Ida and Amanda entered beautiful Port Louis Marina today 6th of February after 17 days out at sea. Everyone was really happy to see them and chatted about their experiences. After the usual welcome rum punch offered by Zara Tremlett, Marina Manager, and the welcome basket, on behalf of the Grenada Tourism Authority, the crew was guided as usual through the beautiful marina by Viking Explorers’ PR Carlota Texeira. So happy to have them in Grenada. Well done and congratulations on your Atlantic Crossing!

M/S Migaloo, a Nordhavn 76, arrived into Port Louis Marina at 14:00 local time. Captain John, his wife Cora and crew Patrick and Monica had such a warm welcome from their fellow sailors. A great atmosphere on the dock and Zara Tremlett, Marina Manager, offered them the famous and well deserved rum punch that they had been waiting for together with the welcome basket from the Grenada Tourism Authority. With big applauses and cheers from the Viking Explorers participants that already had arrived previously; the third boat to arrive into Port Louis Marina on the 6th of January was S/Y Zephyros, a Dutch flagged Koopmans 45DS. Captain Dorrit Gruijters and her husband Harry were greeted on the dock and after that, they enjoyed a well deserved rum punch given by Zara Tremlett, the Marina Manager. Carlota Texeira, PR Viking Explorers also gave them the welcome basket on behalf of the Grenada Tourism Authority. They enjoyed a bottle of champagne on arrival on the dock while sharing experiences with their fellow sailors.

With the Viking Explorer’s boats filling up Port Louis marina, on Tuesday 6th of February at 10:00 local time, S/Y Seaduction arrived. A Fountaine Pajot Saona 47, with Captain Kirsten Judd and her crew Neil, John and Anthony onboard. After being out at sea for 16 days, they were so excited to be on land. Participants greeted them on the dock and after that, they enjoyed a well deserved rum punch given by Zara Tremlett, the Marina Manager. Well done Seaduction and welcome to Grenada!

Today 6th of February has been another very busy day in Port Louis Marina with the arrival of 5 boats.
At 02:10 am S/Y Blue arrived at Port Louis Marina, a Hallberg Rassy 46, with Captain Peter Svedhem, his wife Catherine, and crew Emmie, and Tore onboard. The security staff of Port Louis Marina guided them to the mega yacht dock where they were also greeted by Viking Explorers team Oliver and Carlota.
In the morning the marina moved them to their berth and Marina Manager Zara Tremlett welcomed them into Grenada along with the rest of participants. Congratulations and welcome to Grenada!

On the 5th of February the participants of the Viking Explorers 2024 were invited by Budget Marine and Spice Island Marine Services to their chandlery and hurricane safe boatyard, respectively. On arrival they were greeted by Dane and Sarah Evans, owners of the boatyard. They shew participants around and answered their questions. It’s always fascinating to see how they storage boats for an eventual hurricane, even if Grenada is considered hurricane safe.
After that they visited the chandlery Budget Marine where participants could see different products used in the Caribbean and were helped at all times by the friendly staff.
Before going back to the marina, they enjoyed a nice cool beer in One love restaurant with views of Prickly Bay.
This was the first activity of many during the week. Thank you to everyone that joined!

On Sunday 4th of February at 22:00 Grenada time, the 13th boat of the 7th edition of the Viking Explorers arrived at Port Louis Marina. S/Y Adventure, a Beneteau First 40, with Captain Hugo, his wife Ellen and their crew Floris on board spent 15 days out at sea.
They were docked next to Stone Free on the Super yacht dock until day light. Their fellow sailors, Viking Explorer’s team, together with the security staff were there to greet them.
Next morning managing director from Viking Explorers, Oliver Solanas Heinrichs, gave them a nice basket with many local products on behalf of the Grenada Tourism Authority and the usual official arrival photos were taken. It’s amazing having them in the Caribbean after such an amazing performance.

On Sunday the 4th of February at 18:40 local time S/Y Stone Free, a Wauquiez 40S, double handed by Mark and Janet and of course Jill, their dog, arrived to Grenada’s shores.
They docked on the Superyacht dock with the help of the security staff and were greeted by Oliver and Carlota from Viking Explorers together with Robin from SY Alba and had a well deserved rum punch. Both crews exchanged experiences and were really happy to hear about their adventures.
Happy Captain Mark comments: ”After 2 days out at sea I had a technical problem with my steering. I had to drill some holes, and fixed it 3 times across the Atlantic. You must be McGyver sometimes out there, you need to fix your stuff yourself”, he resumes.
Next morning they were guided to their berth and took the official arrival picture together with the presentation of the welcome basket on behalf of the Grenada Tourism Authority.

S/Y Yulunga, a Nautor’s Swan, from 1976, owned and sailed double handed by Dutch couple Jan and Erica Kooistra with their cute dog Zoë, arrived in Port Louis Marina at 15:30 local time on the 4th of February.
They were welcomed by their fellow sailors and marina staff on arrival. Managing director Oliver Solanas Heinrichs and Carlota Texeira, PR Viking Explorers, provided them with the famous rum punch and the welcome basket on behalf of the Grenada Tourism Authority, with goodies from the island. Zoë the dog was so happy to be on land!
They left Marina Mindelo the 20th of January. So happy to have them here after 15 days out at sea. Captain Jan comments: “A great sailing, a great old and strong boat, all went perfect”. Congratulations and welcome to the spice isle.

SY Anastacia, a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 44i, with Captain Christer, his wife Malin and his brother Lennart arrived in beautiful Port Louis Marina on Friday 2nd of February at 18:00 pm after 16 days out at sea from the Cape Verde archipelago. The marina rib with marina and Viking Explorers staff welcomed them at the entrance of the marina and guided them to their berth. Their fellow sailors went to the dock to welcome them and celebrate together their big achievement.

S/Y Traveller IV, an Amel 50, with Captain Arnis, his wife Jane and their crew Frank, Madara and Robert arrived in Port Louis Marina on the 2nd of February at 17:40 pm local time, after 15 days and a half out at sea. They left a day later but arrived in Grenada the same day as others, due to a great performance. To mention SY Traveller IV decided to take a more southern route towards Grenada than most. Maybe a good choice this year. Carlota from Viking Explorers welcomed them together with Roy Savage, professional photographer, and marina staff in the rib. After the rum punch and the precious welcome basket, they are ready to enjoy a nice cold welcome beer.
This is the 9th boat of the fleet to arrive in Port Louis Marina and the rest of the fleet is getting closer slowly. Congratulations Traveller IV and welcome to Grenada!

It took them 16 days to reach Grenada from Marina Mindelo in Cape Verde. Both had a blast on arrival together with a cold rum punch provided by the marina manager Zara Tremlett. They were super happy to see their friends again after the crossing. The welcome basket with local products from the Grenada Tourism Authority, delivered by marina manager was much appreciated by them. It took them 16 days to reach Grenada from Cape Verde. They were greeted by all the participants and received a well deserved rum punch from Zara Tremlett, the Marina Manager. Today has been a busy morning in Port Louis Marina. The first boat to arrive on the 2nd of February at 09:00 local time was S/Y Lagertha, a UFO 34, the smallest boat of the fleet double handed by UK couple Simon and Julie. They received such a warm welcome from their fellow sailors and enjoyed the strong rum punch offered by the Marina Manager Zara Tremlett. S/Y Silba, a USA flagged Lagoon 40 Catamaran, with American Captain Dean McCarty, his wife Denise, and their crew Toby and Alan were the 5th boat to enter Port Louis Marina on the 1st of February at 18:20 pm local time.
It took them 15 days to reach Grenada from Mindelo in Cape Verde. Everyone had a blast on arrival together with a cold rum punch provided by the marina manager Zara Tremlett. They were super happy to be on land. The welcome basket with local products from the Grenada Tourism Authority, delivered by Chinel Sandy was much appreciated by them. Now it’s time to rest and get ready to discover what the island has to offer.
Thrilled Captain Dean commented: “It was awesome. Though I would use a bigger foresail next time for those days with less wind, but overall a great downwind sailing”. It was a strong start with strong winds up to 32knts, with 3rd reef in, we were doing almost 8knots and the boat behaved perfectly”, he resumed.

On Wednesday the 31st of January at 12:50 local time in Grenada, M/Y L’Adagio B Blond IV, an astonishing Nordhavn 76, with Captain Paolo and his crew Filippo, Matteo, Giovanni and Richard arrived to Grenada’s shores after 11 days out at sea. They were greeted by the team and Patti, one of the crew’s wife, and received a well deserved rum punch from Zara Tremlett, the Marina Manager, and also the welcome basket on behalf of the Grenada Tourism Authority with the local goodies. Paolo offered Oliver and Carlota from Viking Explorers a tour around this stunning yacht, something different, indeed.
Andrew Richards, from Pictures of Grenada, flew his drone and took impressive pictures of their arrival into Port Louis Marina.

The family boat of the seventh edition of the Viking Explorers S/Y Manami II, a Beneteau 46, arrived in Grenada on the 31st of January at 08:00 local time after 14 days out at sea. Captain Mattias Hedlund, his wife Mia, the kids Walter (13yo), Cornelis(10yo) and their crew Martin and Karin had a really lovely welcome on the dock. Zara Tremlett, the Marina Manager, provided a rum punch for the adults and some fruit punch for the kids. Everyone was excited to be on land.

On Tuesday 30th of January at 18:20 Grenada time, the second boat of the 7th edition of the Viking Explorers arrived at Port Louis Marina. S/Y Kerpa, an Amel Super Maramu with Captain Paul, his wife Kerstin and their crew Bertil and Kia on board. They were welcomed in the marina by Zara Tremlett, Marina Manager, Viking Explorers manager Oliver Solanas Heinrichs and PR Carlota Texeira.
They enjoyed their welcome rum punch in the cockpit, before having a well deserved rest.

Almost all the fleet has arrived to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, on the Canary Islands, for the start of the Viking Explorers 2023. Yes, the start is scheduled for the 6th of January, but at Viking Explorers we start with seminars almost a month before, so crews have time to prepare, furthermore, to visit their families back home, before the big start in January. Crossing the Atlantic, with a stop in Mindelo the Cape Verde, and arrive some weeks later to Grenada in the Caribbean. So, most of the crews are here and on Sunday the 11th, we will meet the whole family and will have seminars, lectures and parties for a week.
