Program Overview
The Program offers university students a challenging and exciting opportunity to experience life and culture in the U.S. during their summer holiday periods (May - October)through our J-1 Visa Program. The J-1 Visa program allows these students to work for up to 3 months in the United States with a fourth month reserved for travel if the student chooses.The Work and Travel Program connects enthusiastic international students and American businesses through our commitment to cultural understanding and public diplomacy. It helps students discover the United States and boost their CV by gaining valuable international work experience!
Eligibility
1. Full time Ghanaian University Students between 18 to 29 years old (Non-Ghanaians schooling in Ghana with a valid resident permit can also apply)
2. At least an intermediate level of English
3. Student must have completed at least one year of university education
4. Interested in working in the United States
Note:::: Registration is now open for the 2016 season.
Placement areas:
Paid positions are available in amusement parks, food and beverage retail concessions, retail stores/shops in tourist towns, hotels, and ski resorts, national parks and many others. Types of jobs include but are not limited to: Ski Lift operator, Hotel desk clerks, Lifeguards, Park services, Cooks, Dining room attendants, Game attendants, Fast food workers, etc.

What the students get:·
1. Guaranteed work placement secured prior to arrival.
2. An hourly wage of at least $7.25 an hour.
3. Paperwork coordination: J-1 Visa documentation.
4. Health/Travel insurance.
5. Pre-departure orientation in Ghana
6. Housing assistance.
7. 24 hours a day/7 days a week support.
8. Detailed participant handbook that contains all information relative to the program.
9. An emergency assistance telephone number in the USA· Access to tax refund services that will assist you in filing your taxes and help you in reclaiming any portion of the taxes paid in the U.S. that is due to the participant.
Locations:
Positions are available throughout the USA.
The Program does NOT include;
1. Visa application fees at the U.S. Consulate/Embassy.
2. Round trip airfare to the U.S.
3. Airport transfers.
4. Local Transportation expenses.
5. Any daily living expenses including rent, utilities, furnishings, meals etc.
6. Any expenses at the place of employment
7. 2day New York Orientation fees
The J-1 Visa (together with your DS-2019):Qualifies you to:
1. Work up to 4 months legally in the US.
2. Obtain a social security.
3. Apply for a US driver’s license
Program Fees and Payments
1. Registration - $200.00 (Paid before the start of the program.)
2. Program Fee - $1,600.00 (Refer to contract for refund policy and program inclusions and exclusions.)
3. New York Orientation fees - $200.00 (Includes accommodation, feeding and transport during the two day orientation in New York)
4. Visa Fee - $160.00. (Paid to any Ecobank branch. The Embassy can change this amount at any time so please be advised.)
5. Return Ticket - $1,200 - $2,000 (Participants choose which airline suits their budget)
6. Pocket Money - $1,000.00 (Participants use their discretion but we recommend the above amount)
