The Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) in Dresden, Germany, is a Lutheran church and an architectural masterpiece. Originally built in the 18th century, it was designed by George Bähr and completed in 1743. The church is renowned for its large dome, called the "Stone Bell," which is one of the largest in Europe.

During World War II, the Frauenkirche was destroyed in the bombing of Dresden in 1945. The ruins were left as a war memorial for several decades. However, after the reunification of Germany, a decision was made to rebuild the church. The reconstruction effort was extensive, using original materials wherever possible, and the church was finally completed and reconsecrated in 2005.

The restored Frauenkirche is a symbol of reconciliation and peace. Its reconstruction was supported by donations from around the world, and it stands as a testament to the city's resilience and the desire to preserve its cultural heritage. Today, it serves as a place of worship, a concert venue, and a major tourist attraction.

A death in the Black Forest.

When a wife died her widower could remarry after six weeks... if there were small children left behind.

Widows had to wait a year to remarry, or at least nine months, so a pregnancy could be completely ruled out.

And close relatives wore black clothing for the entire one year mourning period.
