Day 1: Departure from the USA
Day 2: Athens Welcome to Athens where your CHA Tour Director is waiting at the airport to es**rt you to your hotel. Later, explore Syntagma Square on your CHA Walking Tour.
Day 3: Athens-Cape Sounion-Athens Guided sightseeing of Athens, the birthplace of modern democracy, begins at the hilltop Acropolis with included visits to the Parthenon, a masterpiece of Doric architecture, and the Theatre of Dionysius, where crowds of 17,000 witnessed performances of great Greek dramas such as Sophocles’ “Oedipus Rex.” See the ruins of the Agora where Socrates once taught, Hadrian’s Arch, and the Temple of Zeus. Also included is a tour of the National Archaeological Museum to see the coveted Mask of Agamemnon. (If not open, visit the Acropolis Museum.) Pass the Old Royal Palace, the Academy, and the University for an interesting contrast to the city’s ancient treasures. An afternoon excursion leads to Cape Sounion, offering unique views of the Saronic Gulf during your visit to the Temple of Poseidon, built in the time of Pericles as part of a sanctuary to the sea god.
Day 4: Athens-Cruise to the Saronic Islands-Athens Spend the day aboard a scenic Cruise of the Saronic Gulf Islands sailing from Piraeus, the port of Athens. Disembark in Hydra to see its stone mansions and white houses; Poros, a small limestone island of volcanic origin; and Aegina, once a major power in Classical times, where a single column of its Temple of Apollo greets you on your approach. Return to Athens.
Day 5: Athens-Delphi-Athens A full-day excursion leads to Delphi, ancient center of the universe, where its Oracle prophesied men’s destinies. Sightseeing includes visits to Apollo’s Temple, the Athenian Treasure and the Delphi Museum to see its prized bronze Charioteer.
Day 6: Athens-Corinth-Athens By Night Tour & Greek Taverna Start your day with a half day excursion to Ancient Corinth. After lunch the rest of the day is yours to shop for hand-made jewelry and pottery or stroll through the city’s colorful Plaka district. This evening, you will enjoy an exciting nighttime drive through Athens and dinner at a local Greek Taverna featuring local food and entertainment.
Day 7: Athens-Mycenae-Epidaurus-Olympia Journey via the Gulf of Corinth to Mycenae where sightseeing includes a visit to the Lion Gate, the Tombs of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra, and the Circle Grave where the Golden Mask of King Agamemnon was discovered. Next, visit the acoustically perfect Theatre of Epidaurus before continuing to Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
Day 8: Olympia-Athens This morning’s sightseeing of ancient Olympia includes visits to the great Sanctuary of Zeus, the Stadium and the Museum with its famous statues of Hermes by Praxiteles. Return to Athens where you spend your final evening in Greece.
