R E F L E C T I O N S
2024 is drawing to an end. This is when we reflect and make goals for the new coming year.

🧡 Sometimes we get caught up in our busy lives, and it is hard to acknowledge what we have actually achieved.
This was the same for me until a few days ago.
Currently, I have been getting over COVID and my nagging cough post-travel, so, of course, my body feels run down and tired, but then I thought of this past year and what had happened.

💚With Wanderlust Solo Women Tours I have hosted women on 2 local retreats here in New Zealand, a magical group joined me in Bali on Retreat and I also hosted a group on tour all the way in Cuba, now that was an adventure! Plus lots of work at the back end to make more and new exciting adventures for everyone next year.

💛On a personal front, I sold two properties (one of which was my home for the past 10+ years) and then moved onto a fabulous new haven to call home.
There were serious health issues within my family and a busy year at my “day job”.
I also got to catch up with a travel buddy I haven’t seen in 8 years in Canada!

🩵Just like you, a LOT has gone on this year. But it took a moment to remind myself of this.

🧡Take a moment for yourself.
Acknowledge all that you have achieved or accomplished this past year, no matter how big or small.

💚Set achievable small goals for the coming year. And set an intention for a dream of yours to come to a reality.

💛Thank you to EVERYONE who has been there for me, supported me and encouraged me over 2024.
Let’s see where 2025 will take us.
Definitely on more ADVENTURES!

There were many moments not always captured as being “in the moment” is so important, though we have the pressure to take amazing images to share, we need to remember these experiences aren’t all about the photos, but how they make you FEEL.

I am back! 👋🏻
I can’t believe it’s been a month since I arrived in Cuba. 🛬🇨🇺
From flight cancellations, and power outages, to a Cat 3 hurricane, it was an effort just to get the group together. But was it worth it?
HELL YES!
I look forward to sharing all that happened, as travel isn’t always perfect, photo-shopped or easy.
But it is full of amazing moments and cherished memories.

Recognizing my anxiety and neurodiversity later in life.

Using travel as a wellness tool.

I’VE ALWAYS BEEN AN OVER-THINKER, FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER.

One of my earliest memories is from when I was around 9 or 10. A girl brought “diamond” earrings to school, and I argued they couldn’t be real—not to tease her but because, logically, they just didn’t seem possible. You can imagine how well that went over with a bunch of 9 year olds! And growing up, I often felt like I didn’t quite fit in.

Being an only child probably added to some of my quirks, and I was okay with that—until I started realizing just how “different” I was. Back then, we didn’t have names for the things I was feeling. Terms like ‘dyslexia’ weren’t used when I was in school, but I’m pretty sure I’ve dealt with a mild form of it my entire life. (Anyone who follows my social media posts will likely notice!)

In high school, I found a small group of friends who were also a bit “left of center,” and we were labeled as “that group.” We weren’t the norm, but we didn’t mind.

Life went on, and you learn to cope because, well, you don’t know any different. In fact, I didn’t really know I was different.

In my teens and early twenties, I went through several abusive relationships, both mentally and physically. Which was detrimental to my self-confidence. It wasn’t until I reached my thirties that I finally broke free from that pattern.

THIS WAS ALSO THE TIME WHEN TRAVEL CAME INTO MY LIFE IN A BIG WAY, AND THINGS REALLY BEGAN TO CHANGE.

#internationalwomensday Today, March 8th is International Women’s day, a day which I wish we didn’t have to celebrate. Why? 🤔 We are still fighting for our rights, pay equity and social constraints. IWD-all started in the early 1900s which was from a dramatic change with the industrialized world. This brought about unrest and the oppression and inequalities women were facing. Fast forward to 1975 when the United Nations first marked international women’s day, for women’s rights and peace. This followed with themes for each year. By the 2000s attitudes had shifted again, but the battles of the 70s weren’t over. The early 2000s also saw that feminism wasn’t a popular topic of interest anymore. The mid 2020s onwards saw a shift again with the #metoo movement and sadly still a pay equality gap, with back steps on women’s rights to their bodies and high statistics of violence. Let your voice be heard, be loud, be bold, take that solo trip, and be self-dependent and most importantly hold each other up.
