How did I started as a corporate Trainer?
10 years ago, I was retrenched, jobless for months, sleeping in the room for day by day...one day, I decide to do something different - I try something else..
and I got a job as a tutor -teaching computer lessons on a 1 to 1 basis and at the same time doing cold calling to companies...
and 1 day I got an opportunity to train a corporate to use Excel...the very first time I trained a group of managers.
at that time, my leg was shaking while delivering my course...
but I took the challenge and presented it at my very best.
I have fear, I didn't let that fear overcome, above all, I pray hard to God and God delivered me (although I have long forgotten this fact/miracle)..
and I was so excited of that opportunity and I start sharing it to my circle of friends at that time, but then some of my friends said...it won't last, nobody need to learn Excel, it is so easy. most people only need to learn Excel basic, and most people already know it....Excel basic, and most people already know it..Nobody need to know the difference between $A1 and A$1...it is so simple, everyone should already know...
You won't make it as a successful corporate trainer, you are a programmer, you can't train...
luckily, I didn't listen and I just keep giving my service to those who need, I continue attending other Train-the-Trainer classes, attending other trainer class such as Dr.YKK class, Jackson Ng, CP Chan, Puan Farha, Catherine Chen , Kelvin Ng, attending #hackingHR event to learn more how to deliver exceptional training, designing better training manual, improving day by day my Excel knowledge, learning new Excel tool such as PowerQuery, Dashboard.
I keep sharing some Excel tips on my blog, on forum, on youtube..
Keep doing 1 to 1 computer lesson
then soon, 1 to 2 computer lesson, and soon
1 to 10 people Excel class, and
1 to 20 people Excel class, and
lately, the largest ever, 1 to 30 pax Excel class for a government agency at Putrajaya...
Success principle #1. Be extremely good at your subject domain, be an expert.
Success principle #2. Be committed to your client's success. Be passionate to solve your client problem/challenge.
Success principle #3. Keep adding value, keep marketing yourself even when your friend you shouldn't, keep doing it, those who say you are bragging, leave them, you only have 1 life, keep sharing your value (well, don't just keep sharing your challenge in life, tell them how you overcome it)
Success principle #4: Dare to change, if method A doesn't work, use method B, if it still works, tries method C...
and that is how I solved yesterdays' challenge - reducing my client reporting time from 100 hours to under 10 hours.
Success principle #5: Stay humble, I am writing this to encourage those who belittle by those naysayers, I am not here to show my arrogant, I am nothing but a servant of God.
