Orange County Parks & Rec is pleased to announce a new one-day Introduction to Rugby program for youth ages 10 and older (as of 9/1/24), which will be held at Booster Park on Saturday, January 11. The Orange County Extension Office is accepting applications for teen camp counselor positions through Friday, January 10, 2025. The camp dates will be June 1-5, 2025, at the Northern 4-H Educational Center in Front Royal, VA. Applications are available at https://sites.google.com/vt.edu/om4hcamp/home

Parks & Recreation's December Discount Movie Ticket Promotion returned on Monday, December 2. During the promotion time frame, every discount Regal Movie Ticket purchased at the office will earn the purchaser one entry in a drawing for a $35 Regal Concessions Gift Card!

Discount movie tickets make great stocking stuffers and have no expiration date!

Tickets are just $9.50 each; they must be purchased at the Orange County Parks & Recreation office.

As a part of the November Orange County Board of Supervisors meeting, officials from the Rapidan Service Authority (RSA) will present a report on the water issues of late August and be available to answer questions from the Board and members of the public in a Town Hall format.

This event will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the Lake of the Woods Clubhouse, located at 205 Lake of the Woods Parkway, Locust Grove, VA 22508. The portion of the meeting related to the water incident will begin at 7:00 p.m.

The Orange County Board of Supervisors traditionally holds its November meeting at the Lake of the Woods Clubhouse and thus it provides an excellent opportunity for RSA to both report to the Board and engage with concerned residents.

The format of the Town Hall is planned to include a presentation outlining the incident and the multi-agency response, and actions taken to address the underlying causes. This report will be followed by questions and comments from residents and customers. The Town Hall will conclude at approximately 9:00 p.m. or when there are no further citizens wishing to speak.

Drug Take Back

This Saturday, we will be participating in the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back. The event will be at Lake of the Woods Clubhouse Lower Parking Lot from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 26th. Please go through your medications and bring them by to safely dispose of any unused or expired medications.

Additionally, we now have a prescription drug take back drop box at the Public Safety Building. We accept medications during business hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. if you cannot make it out to the event. Please do your part and don’t let medications accidentally slip into the wrong hands and take these opportunities to dispose of them safely.

Hidden In Plain Sight events help parents prevent teen alcohol and drug use by using an example bedroom that demonstrates locations where drugs and alcohol may be hidden. This event, sponsored by the Orange County Office on Youth, will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at Lake of the Woods Church.

Dinner is provided for the first hour, followed by the Hidden In Plain Sight event. Childcare is free, but pre-registration is required by 10/23 for accurate dinner and childcare numbers.

OCSO TRIAD Fundraiser

We hope you can attend this event or reach out to support this program if you are unable to attend. We had a great time last year, and are proud of what our program offers to our community.

Orange Triad is a program of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. We are committed to reducing criminal victimization of senior citizens in our community and keeping them safe. We issue equipment such as Guardian Alert 911 Pendants which allow a senior to call 911 if they have fallen and can’t get to a phone. We provide Project Lifesaver transmitters for those who are at risk of wandering, such as adults with dementia and children with autism. We have a Senior Buddy program for seniors who live alone and request a regular phone call to check on their well-being. There is also an educational side to the program. Organizations and different groups can request a presentation at any time during the year. One of the most popular is a presentation about scams that are happening and how to avoid becoming a victim. Orange Triad also sponsors a yearly conference in which we have speakers who present on topics geared toward the senior population, vendors who provide resources for seniors, and we provide lunch for all attendees. These are just some of the highlights of the Orange Triad program.

The equipment and services that we provide are at no cost to the senior citizen. All the proceeds from our fundraiser will be used to purchase the equipment that was mentioned above and towards our annual conference and other educational programs. Thank you for your support!
