Erika is a fantastic tour guide! She is very knowledgeable about the area especially about the restaurants and different events. It was pretty cold and windy, but she did a great job keeping everyone interested. The tour started off with a tour of all 7 floors of the Exploration Tower at Port Canaveral. She gave an interesting overview of the history of the town. We also got a taste of some freeze dried astronaut ice cream that was surprisingly very delicious! My fave was the strawberry flavor. It was cool being able to see the 3 cruise ships at the port. The fish market had delicious fresh shrimp that we got to taste ted rock shrimp and red shrimp. Next stop was Millikens Reef Port Canaveral for a fruity house drink, a taste of Mahi with pineapple coconut sauce on a tasting spoon, then smoked fish dip in a phyllo cup and finished with a large piece of Wang bang shrimp that was sweet and spicy, it was my fave. Next stop was at Fishlips Waterfront Bar & Grill for a taste of 3 soups; a seafood gumbo (spicy), new England clam chowder (huge pieces of clams) and my favorite the lobster bisque (very smooth light lobster flavor). Here we also tasted a locally brewed beer. Last stop was at Smokehouse Foods Inc for the best smoked fish dip ever; it was soooo good we had to buy some to snack on later! Overall, this is a great tour to taste some local seafood with a great group of people. A must try! Thank you Erika!

There is a new Yummy food stop in town on N Courtney in Merritt Island called A Toast to all Things that carries 25+ flavors of infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars. I cooked this amazing dish using their Habanero oil and just had to share the recipe with everyone.

"Habanero Infused Dirty Rice"

1 C brown rice
2 1/2 C water
1 tsp chicken bouillon base
1 tsp beef bouillon base
1 lb ground turkey (or beef)
1 yellow onion chopped
2 sweet red peppers chopped
2 sweet yellow peppers chopped
1 bunch of green onion chopped
2-3 cloves of garlic minced
1/2 bunch of cilantro chopped
1 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
2 Tbs Habanero Olive Oil

Bring water, chicken and beef bouillon, and garlic powder to a boil in med sauce pan. Stir in rice, cover, reduce heat and boil 40-50 min. Meanwhile, chop and mince veggies. Then sautee yellow onion, peppers and habanero oil in large skillet for about 5 min. Add turkey and salt and continue to stir until browned and cooked through. Add green onion and minced garlic and cook about 3 more minutes. Turn heat on low and cover until rice is ready. When both are finished, add the rice and cilantro to the skillet and mix together well. You can enjoy right away or let sit on low for 30-60 minutes to let the flavors really meld together. Garnish with a little extra cilantro and if you prefer a drizzle of habanero oil!

There are two ways YOU CAN HELP Brevard Zoo and Brevard Zoo Conservation replenish our oyster reefs. Anyone can volunteer to make Oyster Mats this July at various events around Brevard.
