What an amazing day out yesterday! An early start gave Felix and Franzi some magnificent views of the mountain and the city. The great conversation made the climb up India Venster seem way shorter than it was. The fynbos also did its thing and really showed off. Views for days, a healthy dose of adventure and making new friends - one couldn't ask for a better start to the week.

Yesterday was an absolute beauty of a day on Table Mountain. We had perfect conditions and the most gorgeous views while ascending via India Venster. A fantastic morning in great company of Olly and Jan exploring the slopes of the mountain.

The Helderberg & Hottentots Holland Mountain Rim - Part 3

The last morning we set out early again as we had a long and tough day ahead of us. Going over the top of Swartboskloof on the ridge towards Haelkop, we had a beautifully clear morning on Jonkershoek's side and a moody misty morning towards the ocean on the other side.

Hiking along the exposed ridgeline on the edge between Jonkershoek and the Helderberg basin, we had to work hard but were rewarded with unbelievable views. The going was tough as the route was off trail with plenty exposed scrambling.

Coming down the side of Suurberg by mid-afternoon we decided to abort our intended attempt over West Peak to finish the Rim and descended towards Lourensford Estate.

We arrived at the wine cellar as the sun was setting - three days and 66km later. A heartfelt thank you to for organising this epic adventure and for inviting me along.

The Helderberg & Hottentots Holland Mountain Rim - Part 2

We had an early start on day two to see the sunrise over the Hottentots Holland Mountains and the misty valleys below.

We followed the very neglected Boland hiking trail towards the Landroskop hut. The extremely overgrown trail made for slow going throughout the morning. When we reached Landdroskop hut, we unfortunately had to say goodbye to two of our group due to injury. We then turned towards Somerset Sneeukop on our way to Jonkershoek. We entered the Jonkershoek valley as the sun was setting and hiked the last couple of kilometres with our headlamps on.

After a gruelling 12 hours on the trail, we pitched our tents in the dark for a well deserved rest next to Pic Nom Sans.

The Helderberg & Hottentots Holland Mountain Rim - Part 1

In the middle of this very wet winter we were keeping an eye out for a dry spell in the weather. Our objective: to hike around the mountains shaping a rim around the Helderberg basin in three days. Inspired by Steve Chadwick's book- A Guide to the Helderberg & Hottentots Mountain Rim, got the five of us together for an epic adventure.

When the opportunity presented itself at the beginning of July, we set out before sunrise from the Steenbras River Mouth. We made our way up past the flooding Crystal Pools and all along the Steenbras Dam to cross the N2 at the top of Sir Lowry's Pass. From there we followed the Boland hiking trail to make camp next to Hans se Kop - a stunning sunset - our reward for the long day on the trail.

In June this year extended an invite to ascend Du Toit's Peak. A life long dream of mine and one not many get to achieve. In between two cold fronts, we got lucky and had an amazing, albeit chilly, day on the mountain. Sunlight breaking through the clouds created an epic backdrop for these impressive mountains.
